  • Maintaining a database of past and current nominations and outcomes
  • Interviewing faculty awardees, writing articles and announcements, and contributing to school and university efforts to publicize faculty honors and awards
  • Sharing nominations and results with Media Relations in the Division of Communications and Marketing
  • Preparing comprehensive activity reports for internal and external use

Supporting activities:

  • Coordinate with academic departments to develop area-specific award lists and trajectories for future awards
  • Update and maintain online listings of faculty award opportunities
  • Stay informed about faculty activities, accomplishments, and professional society memberships
  • Work closely with the deans, vice president for research, academic department chairs, and faculty to identify appropriate faculty candidates for national and international awards, fellowships or national advisory committee placement
  • Research and advise on available and qualified faculty for such awards
  • Identify and disseminate information about nomination opportunities and award criteria, notably to appropriate schools, departments, and individuals
  • Maintain regular contact with awarding organizations
  • Compile faculty awards material portfolios and relevant faculty information
  • Help to prepare and edit nomination statements and letters, coordinating with involved parties through different iterations of a nomination
  • Meet with department chairs and individual faculty to coordinate award schedules and opportunities, identifying required materials and references

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree with at least three years of experience in project or program management
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets and database software; excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Outstanding writing and editing skills
  • Ability to meet and manage deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure

Working at Binghamton University

Message on working at Binghamton University from President Harvey Stenger

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DMKyZ37krc&feature=youtu.be

History

Binghamton University opened its doors as Triple Cities College in 1946, to serve the needs of local veterans returning from service in World War II. Originally located in Endicott, N.Y., five miles west of the present campus, the fledgling school was a branch of Syracuse University.

Four years later, the college was incorporated into the State University of New York (SUNY) and renamed Harpur College in honor of Robert Harpur, a Colonial teacher, patriot and pioneer who helped settle the area west of Binghamton.

In 1961, the campus moved across the Susquehanna River to Vestal. Growing enrollment and a reputation for excellence soon led to the selection of Harpur College as one of four doctorate-granting University Centers in the SUNY system.

In 1965, the campus was formally designated the State University of New York at Binghamton, and in 1992, Binghamton University was adopted as our informal name.

Mission Statement

Binghamton University is a premier public university dedicated to enriching the lives of people in the region, state, nation and world through discovery and education and to being enriched by partnerships with those communities.
