Position Description

Reporting to theFacilities Trades Manager, and under the priorities established by the shoplead, this position provides electrical maintenance services as an integralpart of the operations and maintenance of the university.

Essential Functions

Operations and Maintenance (85%)

  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical system problemsincluding analyzing and systematically diagnosing electrical equipment such asmotors, HVAC controls, kitchen controls and equipment, and repairing orreplacing defective wiring. Determine most appropriate method of repair, impacton equipment users, materials required and recommend best time to completerepair with least impact on system users.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on systems asscheduled.
  • Perform wiring, repair of electrical controls andinstallation of switches, ballasts, outlets, breakers, panel boards,photocells, etc. Perform installation of interior and exterior lighting.
  • Perform electrical wiring for the installation of newequipment in existing spaces.
  • Perform electrical work on new construction orremodeling projects including reading electrical schematics and blueprints andrunning wires for electrical outlets, switches, computer equipment, HVACsystems, alarm systems, telecommunications equipment, and other systems for theeffective use of the space. Determine placement of wires, wire size and thebest method for performing the work.
  • May be required to test fire alarm systems ifqualified. Troubleshoot security systems.
  • Responds to requests from University staff regardingsystem problems. Determines nature of problem and quickly and effectivelyrepairs the system.
  • Performother duties of a similar nature or level.
  • Planand organize assigned work to fulfill task standards, meet schedulerequirements, and maintain workload balance.
  • Workautonomously or as part of a team, depending on the project or problem beingaddressed.
  • Properlyand safely use appropriate tools used in performing required tasks. Account for and maintain university-ownedtools and equipment; repair and maintain tools as needed. Maintain a safe and clean shop space.
  • Followand promote established safety rules and regulations; attend safety trainingsas required.
  • Workin a safe, clean, and respectful manner while performing work on campus. Work in occupied spaces with minimaldisruption of campus activities.

Scheduling (5%)

  • Schedulework considering customer requests, space available and potential disruption toadjacent academic, work and living areas.

Communication / Customer service (5%)

  • Communicate with the ShopLead, the requester, and other staff as needed regarding development and statusof work requests. Coordinate with the Facilities Managers on project requestrecommendations, estimates, and work management reports as required.

Administrative (5%)

  • Open,update, track and complete all work orders assigned. Complete all trackingrequired for personal time sheets in a timely manner. Attend departmentalmeetings as required.

Qualifications

Completion of a four-yearapprenticeship program which provides the knowledge and skills required toperform work as a journey level electrician and or an equivalent combination ofeducation and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essentialduties of the job such as those listed above. Possession of a Journey LevelElectrician's License is required.

Compensation at a Glance:Starting Salary: $85,000 DOESeattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate’s gender or any other protected status.Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck.
