Assistant Dean of Health Systems Sciences Education

Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Office of Medical Education, is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Assistant Dean for Health Systems Sciences Education. This is a faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor. This is a non-tenure track position, and majority of time for this role will be spent on curriculum development and teaching.

Responsibilities and Duties

The successful candidate will take leadership in the ongoing four-year health systems sciences curriculum as well as the development of Year 4 capstone courses with a focus on transition to residency. Curricular components that map to the core concepts and competencies in HSS should be fully integrated into the educational methods of the WR2 curriculum. In addition, the individual will serve as a facilitator in the Science and Art of Medicine Integrated (SAMI) course and provide leadership in the AMA Accelerating Change in Medical Education Consortium including scholarship. They will develop and implement the Systems and Scholarship course with a design team. They will handle dissemination of the CWRU Curriculum in HSS Education, ideally through peer publication and presentations at regional and national educational meetings. They must prepare an end-of-year report to the Vice Dean for Education describing the health science curriculum and goals for the next academic year.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate must be an innovative and creative professional educator with a M.D. (preferred) or equivalent experiences; Ph.D., Ed.D. candidates will be considered. Five years’ experience in medical education, preferable undergraduate (medical school) education.

Work Environment

Office, clinical practice, classroom, laboratory, clinical skills teaching environments and clinical sites constitute working environments. Primary office located in the Health Education Campus. The work at times requires the ability to manage a rapid pace and to synthesize and organize large volumes of information; can includes settings of clinical practice and clinical teaching and prioritizing duties.
