DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Manager, Audio Visual Services, the Audio Visual Technician will assist the Manager, Audio Visual Services in the support and management of audiovisual and instructional media resources, associated facilities, as well as events that take place at the campus that require audiovisual setup and support.

 

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Manager, Audio Visual Services Manager in the supervision and training of student employees, and management of Media Services Inventory and physical facilities.
  • Ensure the proper checkout and set-up of equipment that is loaned to the campus community.
  • Assist in video production projects that are managed and supported by the Academic Computing and Instructional Technology (ACITS) department.
  • Assist in the management of the Media Services website, creating technical and nontechnical support documents, and online tutorials to support the functions of the Media Services department.
  • Stay abreast with developments and innovations in audiovisual and media technologies, research, pilot-test, and implement these technologies to improve the service provided by Media Services.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned or directed.

The position will be expected to work on weekdays between 8am-5pm, including frequent evening and weekend shifts. The work schedule will be finalized by the Manger, AV Services, depending upon the projects and events at hand.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires minimum of 1 (one) year recent experience managing and supporting audiovisual services and equipment, ideally in a higher education institution; 2 (two) years of experience preferred. High School diploma plus two (2) years of coursework required; BA or BS with a technical or electronics emphasis is preferred. A valid driver’s license is required. A current DMV printout demonstrating a good driving record must be presented after offer of employment.

The candidate must have working knowledge, and preferably be an expert in the usage and support of audiovisual equipment including but not limited to speakers, amplifiers, projectors, microphones and AV mixing boards. He/she must be proficient in computer software/hardware and audio/visual system support and troubleshooting in order to maintain and deploy computers and other audiovisual equipment for events, as needed. The candidate should have experience of working within a team of AV techs, be highly customer service oriented and must be prepared to translate the non-technical needs of the clients into what may be technically needed for an effective audiovisual setup.

In addition, the candidate must be highly organized, disciplined, and detail-oriented in order to train and lead a team of student workers in supporting events and academic courses that require audiovisual setup and support. The candidate must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills to coordinate and lead the audiovisual setups for high profile events, in collaboration with the Manager, Audio Visual Services, and other departments including Event Services, Associated Students, Student Services etc. He/she will occasionally participate in planning and coordination meetings with various departments. Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, administrators, and staff.
