The Department of Clinical Sciences and Advanced Medicine at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a standing faculty position in Small Animal Surgery with an emphasis and focus on soft tissue minimally invasive surgery (MIS).  This position will be in the Clinician Educator (CE) track of the standing faculty at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.

The Clinician Educator track anticipates the successful candidate will have a history of, or potential as, an exemplary clinician, educator, researcher, and academic leader in their field.  Faculty in the Clinician Educator (CE) track are members of the standing faculty and yearly perform 31 weeks of clinical patient care in the Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary Hospital.  CE faculty participate in the clinical and didactic teaching of veterinary students, interns, and residents, and contribute to the advancement of their medical specialty through scholarship that brings new knowledge and advances to this field.

The Section of Surgery is currently staffed by 5 soft tissue and 3 orthopedic faculty, along with 7 surgery residents. The hospital has a state-of-the-art OR for minimally invasive surgery. This suite and intra-operative fluoroscopy (c-arm) allow for the most technologically advanced minimally invasive procedures to be performed, including laparoscopy, thoracoscopy, and interventional radiology.  Complementing this cutting-edge facility is our diagnostic imaging center (including MRI, CT, ultrasound, and stationary fluoroscopy), a rehabilitation medicine program, state-of-the-art emergency and intensive care unit, and a comprehensive cancer care service. Together, these facilities and programs make Penn Vet a center for innovation in the arena of clinical veterinary medicine.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have a DVM/VMD or equivalent degree with board certification or have successfully completed an accredited residency training in veterinary surgery and scheduled for the board certification exam. Candidates with specific expertise in MIS (laparoscopy and thoracoscopy) are especially encouraged to apply.
