Nature of Work

The purpose of this position is to aid, identify, facilitate, develop, monitor and maintain the School of Dental Medicine’s hardware and software computer needs.  The person will assist in network maintenance, system updating and backup, installation of software and hardware, software and hardware technical support for students, residents, faculty and staff.  Aid in the development, maintenance and monitoring of computer hardware and software inventory.  Develop and write software and database applications and/or reports needed by offices and departments of the Dental School.  The incumbent will make independent decisions necessary to provide a timely resolution to the needs of the Dental School

Job Responsibilities

This position is primarily responsible for identifying, developing, monitoring, and maintaining the School of Dental Medicine's hardware and software computer needs.

Server and Storage Administration – (100% Essential Function):

    Serve as primary server administrator to allow SDM IT to function as an agile strategic business unit, managing Dell and other miscellaneous physical server technology used by SDMServe as server administrator for 150+ virtual servers, appliances, datastores, networking, including Windows, Linux, Mac, Netscaler, as well as the underlying hypervisors VMWare ESXi and vSphere.  Serve as primary storage administrator for SDM, ensuring that the Tegile, Equalogic, Nas and other local storage devices including Fibre Channel switches, are effectively meeting the data needs of the schoolServe as primary Backup administrator, verifying effective backups of all infrastructure servers, testing and implementing new policies and plans to effectively back up and secure SDM information and IT resources. Assumes the backup role for the majority of SDM servers from OIT and provides a cost-effective, agile solution to data backup needs with Veeam.  Serve as primary resource for all Active Directory needs, including group policy (GPO) creation and management, computer and user management, group membership, shared drive and permission configuration.Functions as primary network contact to OIT, and working with OIT to develop more streamlined control over the SDM’s unique networking needs and as one of a very limited group of campus administrators with appropriate experience to allow OIT to give access to full (Domain name server) DNS naming and IP addressing rightsDevelop the unit’s HIPAA compliance policies and plan, including analyzing the environment, documenting the systems and implementing policies on those systems.  Continually re-analyses the environment to ensure that best practices are being followed and new vulnerabilities are not exploitable.Assists in developing IT security policies for the SDM serversHandles purchasing and specification needs of all workstations and accessoriesMaintains and updates server monitoring infrastructure to ensure early notification of infrastructure configuration and security problems, including Nagios, OpenVas, Splunk, VMware Operations Manager, Nessus, Metasploit, Nexpose, and SecurityCenter while avoiding overloading servers during production timesSupervise and train student workers assigned to tickets and other special projectsProvides intermediate to advanced script writing for automating software updates within the school on Mac and windowsPerform data recovery on failed hard drivesContinually re-analyzes current practices for all products and ensures they meet the needs of the unit.Assists in the recommendation of and installation of new or upgraded hardware and software productsAssists in the migration of servers (Windows & Mac) and workstationsAssists in remote technical upgrades and assistance when possible via RDP or SCCMFunctions as the SDM help desk for computer needsProvides backup assistance and support to the Manager/Director of ITTeaches and trains students, faculty and staff in the use of computer hardware and software and various other duties or tasks as assigned and/or needed.  Provides strategic input to the IT policy as needed

On occasion, this position may be assigned other duties needed to help drive to the vision, fulfill the mission, and uphold the organizational values of CU Denver/Anschutz and the SDM.



Qualifications
Minimum Requirements

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Management, or in a related field 5+ years of professional IT experience troubleshooting, repairing, upgrading, and replacing computers.
Preferred Qualifications

    5+ years experience as a professional systems administratorMasters degree in Computer Science, Information Techology, or a related fieldProfessional experience teaching and training others in the use of computer hardware and software.Recent experience (within the last 5 years) working in an IT Help Desk setting.Experience in virtual environments including Citrix (Xenapp, Xenserver, Provisioning Server etc) and VMware ESXi/vSphere 6.5+Experience with Veeam backup softwareExperience with Dolphin Imaging Software, Emago Imaging softwareVirtual storage configuring/working experience. (Tegile, Equal logic, EMC, Netapp, Nimble)Oracle and Sql experience Previous experience working with students, faculty, and staff within a higher education or academic medical environment.Knowledge of and experience with dental clinical management systems (i.e. axiUm, IMS, etc).Experience troubleshooting and resolving issues with classroom or conference room computers, projectors, monitors, and audiovisual equipment.Experience in planning and implementing IT security and safety features.Experience with Sharepoint

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $58,481 - $74,388  

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
