Overview

This position performs a variety of light maintenance, shipping and receiving, landscaping, repair and cleaning functions in and around the College facilities and grounds. This position includes handling many tasks independently, but often assisting Facilities staff with more complex projects.

Responsibilities

1. Identify building, grounds, and equipment problems and report conditions to supervisor.2. Operate lawn, weed sprayer, and snow removal equipment. Prune shrubs and trees.

3. Receive packages and shipments, verify merchandise received with purchase order/credit card/purchasing form, verify packing slips to purchase order/credit card purchase form and forward paperwork to Finance Office for payment. Directly contact vendors on any irregularities, problems, incorrect quantities or items, damages, etc. Package, label and arrange for shipment of outgoing packages via courier or common carrier. Process inter-office mail.

4. Assist with unloading delivery trucks; including the handling of hazardous materials and chemicals.

5. Maintain organization and cleanliness within the warehouse office, shipping & receiving area and surplus/storage area consistent with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental standards.6. Prepare and paint walls, doors, frames and furniture.7. Move furniture and equipment for students and staff.8. Check and replace light bulbs and ballasts with in the facilities.9. Operate motorized vehicles, district vehicles, and housekeeping equipment.10. Identify and dispose of recyclable materials, hazardous waste and contaminated materials according to District procedure and safety guidelines.11. Assist Facilities work team, including maintenance, housekeeping, security, and management staff, with a variety of assigned tasks and special projects.

12. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1. High school diploma or equivalent required.2. Two years of work experience in maintenance, groundskeeping, landscaping, custodial services, warehouse, shipping and receiving and/or one or more of the building trades. Forklift certification preferred, but not required. Certification must be obtained within six months of hire.

3. Any combination of equivalent training and experience which provides desired knowledge, skills and abilities.

4. Ability to work with others and to communicate in a team environment.

5. Demonstrated mechanical ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools and motorized equipment.

6. Ability to use hand carts and pallet trucks.

7. General understanding of grounds keeping and/or landscaping and vehicle maintenance preferred.8. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel.9. Knowledge of Employee Right to Know, blood borne pathogens and other safety regulations.

10. Must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver License, with the ability to pass MPTC’s insurance carrier criteria.

11. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations by promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture that is respectful and accepting of diversity.

12. Ability to perform physical labor including properly lifting 25 lbs. consistently, up to 80 lbs. individually, and 80+ lbs. with assistance. Also able to identify what type and when to utilize mechanical lifting assistance such as hand cart, pallet jack, or fork lift.

13. Ability to climb stairs, ladders, scaffolding, operate various types of lifts and reach above head in order to work on projects and complete work performed on interior and exterior of campus buildings.

14. Physical ability to stand and/or walk for long periods of time. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, twist and crawl.

15. Ability to perform duties within extreme hot and cold temperature ranges, dusty and dirty work environments to complete job assignments.
