Your Opportunity

The Facilities Management and Space Planning office manages a complex set of facilities for the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, on campus and off – and is responsible for consultation, planning, design and implementation of sophisticated, complicated projects for highly specialize research and academic needs.

As Senior Facilities Planner, you will provide strategic guidance to a team of facilities planners and operations specialists, and work in close partnership with our University counterparts in Project Development, Facilities and Services and Project Management to independently manage projects and conduct research related to physical planning. Your strong leadership skills, design acumen and creative thinking will enable us to realize complex projects and help us fulfill time-sensitive goals and objectives.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing space programs for the Faculty’s capital projects of all sizes by conducting space utilization studies, analyzing inventory usage, planned enrolments, staffing and project specific criteria
  • Providing direction to departments planning the development or redevelopment of capital facilities at the Faculty based on specialized expertise
  • Participate in the development of and recommend modifications to space standards and methodology based on specialized architectural expertise
  • Consulting with other agents and agencies of the Faculty, University and external consultants as required by the various aspects of facilities management and space planning
  • Maintaining knowledge of architectural principles and trends, the University’s space standards and acquiring and maintaining knowledge of technical conventions, practices and protocols specific to various departments and programs within the Faculty
  • Advising and providing guidance to staff on University standards, interpretation and analysis

Essential Qualifications

  • A licensed professional architect
  • Minimum seven years’ applicable experience in the field of design and construction
  • Experience managing construction projects of varying complexity and involving statistical and facilities analysis
  • Knowledge of laboratory or other research and teaching environments
  • Demonstrated experience providing effective direction, training and guidance to staff
  • Advanced proficiency with CAD software for plans and 3-D drawings, and spreadsheets/analytical software
  • Excellent written (including report writing) and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical and numerical skills
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to effectively manage expectations and negotiate regarding project requirements and/or changes
  • Demonstrated initiative, ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, meet established deadlines, and achieve results in a highly complex environment
  • High level of accuracy required while working under pressure
  • Sound judgment, tact, patience, and sensitivity to the diverse needs of client
