Additional Information:

Central College seeks an outstanding teacher in computer and data sciences beginning August 2022. This position will support existing majors in computer science and information systems, as well as emerging programs in data science.

Tenure-line applicants should have a Ph.D. in computer science, data science, or a closely related field (ABD considered). Applicants with a master's degree will be considered for a non-tenure-line lecturer appointment. The successful tenure-line candidate will be able to teach a range of courses, sustain a program of scholarly activity, and contribute to Faculty governance. Research with undergraduates is encouraged and supported through summer grant opportunities.

Specific course assignments will be based on the individual's interests and the needs of the department. All faculty at Central have regular support to pursue scholarly activities, and there are grant opportunities for special projects.

The dynamic and creative faculty in Central's Analytical and Physical Sciences department supports majors in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Engineering, while contributing to interdisciplinary majors in Information Systems and Actuarial Science. The department has a history of close collaboration among its disciplines, including leading recent efforts to create a Self-Designed Interdisciplinary minor in data science as a step toward eventually creating a standalone major and minor. The department is housed in the Vermeer Science Center, the first LEED-certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) building in Iowa and the first LEED-certified science building in the nation.
