Organizational Unit Overview:East Carolina University’s Academic Library Services (ALS) is seeking a collaborative, proactive, inclusive, and innovative librarian to lead ECU’s Music Library. The Music Library is located in A.J. Fletcher Music Center and is a department within ALS. The Music Library’s collection includes CDs, LPs, DVDs, streaming audio and video, books, journals, and scores for study and performance. Music Library staff provide circulation, interlibrary loan, reserve, reference, instruction, consultation, acquisition, and cataloging services.

Reporting to the Assistant Director for Public Services, the Head of Music leads a team providing outstanding service to ECU students, faculty, staff, and the community. The Head of the Music Library is responsible for the development of the music collections; oversight of public and technical services; staff supervision, consisting of one faculty librarian and two full-time support staff members; facilities planning; music reference and bibliographic instruction; campus and community outreach; acting as a liaison with the School of Music; participating in appropriate library, university, and professional committees. Employment contingent upon availability of funds.
Minimum Education/Experience :· Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited institution or international equivalent· Bachelor’s or higher degree in Music or a related field· 3 years of library experience, including public service responsibilities · Supervisory experience· Demonstrated knowledge of music resources
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation :N/A
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education :· 5 or more years of progressively increasing responsibility in an academic library· Demonstrated understanding of current developments in information and digital technologies and their impact on music library services· A record of publications and/or service in music library professional organizations· Strong commitment to diversity and inclusion in the workplace· Demonstrated outstanding leadership and interpersonal and communication skills · Demonstrated ability to set priorities, and to develop, plan, and implement programs and projects· Demonstrated flexibility in adapting to change· Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other campus departments
