Job Details

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

Provides support and leadership in the development and implementation of policies, procedures and programs for Career Services, including job development, career planning/placement, cooperative education, employer relations, Triton Retraining Assistance Center (TRAC), and career fairs. Represents Career Services at meetings and events on campus and within the community. Responsible for supervising and developing employees.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Demonstrates a strong understanding of career development, job development, job search strategies, employment trends and cooperative education.

2. Manages and coordinates the Cooperative Education program, working closely with Triton College students, faculty members and employers. Responsible for the promotion of the Cooperative Education program including student and employer recruitment. Develops a plan to increase/enhance the Cooperative Education program each year, integrating students, faculty members, counselors and employers.

3. Coordinates, manages and promotes career fairs, working closely with the Director of Career Services and other staff.

4. Develops relationships with employers, identifying partners that can play a role throughout Career Services programs, especially the Cooperative Education program, career fairs and Dislocated Worker (WIA) programs. Develops job leads by contacting employers and company contacts.

5. Assists students through career readiness programs, resume writing, job searching, interviewing skills and personal advisement for reaching career goals.

6. Develops and maintains positive professional relationships with internship sites and potential employers.

7. Works closely with academic units to identify, develop and secure job placement opportunities. Shares relevant career placement opportunities and needs with academic units.

8. Participates in workforce development-related activities, organizations and granting agencies.

9. Works with employers to determine local workforce needs and job placement opportunities.

10. Pursues grant opportunities related to career services programs.

11. Monitors local and regional workforce trends and develops/implements strategies within the career services area that help address these needs.

12. Reviews institutional, local and regional data.

13. Utilizes technologies and web-based tools to improve the support, development and delivery of career services.

14. Reviews, monitors and implements on-going career exploration programs, software and activities.

15. Regularly meets with community members to provide job search assistance. Helps with all aspects of the job search, including career assessment, resume development, interview preparation, among other topics.

16. Conducts workshops covering job search topics that are presented on campus as well as throughout the community.

17. Represents Career Services at Triton College events and meetings. Represents the department at functions sponsored by community partners.

18. Supervises designated Career Services staff. Also, responsible for development of staff through training programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Holds a minimum educational requirement of a Bachelor's Degree in education, business, or related field. A Master's Degree is preferred.

EXPERIENCE

Has a minimum of two years of managerial experience in the following fields: career planning, job development, workforce development, human resources, education, counseling or related area.

KNOWLEDGE

Has knowledge of career planning and job development procedures and associated student development programs and services.

SKILLS

Has demonstrated the ability to manage programs in a career planning and/or job development setting; has excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to develop and maintain relationships with employers; has experience and expertise with event planning; and has the ability to develop career development programs and strategies with students, alumni, and community members.
