Position Title:  Head Football Coach

Job Summary:

The Head Football Coach is responsible for managing all aspects of starting and sustaining a competitive NCAA Division III Football Program including, but not limited to: recruitment and management of a coaching staff, recruitment and retention of academically and athletically qualified student-athletes, and successful preparation, planning, and strategy for the development and sustaining of a highly competitive intercollegiate football program.

Essential Functions:

  • Hire and develop a coaching staff built around 2 full-time coordinator positions.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive recruiting plan that will identify, recruit, and retain qualified student-athletes for the football program in accordance with all University admissions standards and qualifications.
  • Meet established annual recruiting goals.
  • Implement a comprehensive strategy and planning for both practices and games to ensure proper preparation of student-athletes.
  • Manage all operational, fiscal, and administrative duties associated with the football program, including balancing the annual football operating budget.
  • Promote an understanding of, and commitment to, University, MAC, and NCAA rules and regulations by all coaches and student-athletes associated with the football program.
  • Monitor the discipline and conduct of football coaches and student-athletes to support the mission, image, and reputation of Alvernia University.
  • Ensure a commitment to the academic success of the football student-athletes, including monitoring of academic progress and attendance.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Integrate with the campus community, including serving on university-wide committees, and attending University events.
  • Serve as a community relations representative for the University to include community service activities, public speaking engagements, etc.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Athletics and the Office of Institutional Advancement, coordinate fundraising efforts for the football program.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics, to include serving as a gameday administrator for selected home spring athletics events.

Qualifications/Education:

  • Commitment to the mission statement, core values and goals of Alvernia University.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
  • Successful football coaching experience at the high school level or above, preferably as a college head coach or recruiting coordinator
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff utilizing excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently

Physical Requirements:

  • Attendance is required in order to perform the duties of this job.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Occasional nights and weekends required
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
