JOB GOAL:

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

Adjunct faculty are needed to teach in the Spring Semester (1/18-5/10) as part of Kirkwood’s Interior Design Program. Courses include Costing and Estimating Interiors and Textiles for Interior Design. All courses will be taught face-to-face at the Kirkwood Community College main campus in Cedar Rapids.

Costing and Estimating Interiors 3 cr. Tuesday & Thursday, 2:30-3:50pm

The course teaches basic principles and techniques for estimating residential and commercial projects, materials, finishes, and surfaces. It also incorporates relevant mathematical processes to interior design businesses and practices.

Textiles for Interior Design 3 cr. Tuesday, 4:30-7:30 pm


The course studies fibers, yarns, fabrics, finishes and regulations used in commercial and residential interior textile products. It evaluates fabric properties according to variables of end-use serviceability and product categories.

$1,256 per credit hour of instruction.

  • DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Provide instruction in discipline.Work with other faculty members to develop a course syllabus and consistent assessments.Communicate with department staff, students, and faculty on a regular basis.Perform other related work duties as assigned.

    Effectively instruct and communicate material for the course.Abide by and enforce safety rules when in a lab setting.Welcome, value, and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differences.

    PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

    Position involves working in a classroom setting. Occasional (10-33%) sitting, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) standing, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Bachelors in Interior Design or Architecture OR 6,000 hours (3 years) of recent/relevant work experience in interior design
