The Assistant Dean for Communications develops and executes the communications strategy for Arts & Sciences. This strategy will help raise Arts & Science's profile externally and internally; promote the liberal arts educational and research experiences that define Arts & Sciences; and foster a sense of community and common identity across the broad and diverse areas that make up Arts & Sciences. The AD will work with units from across the college and graduate school as well as Development and Alumni Relations and BU Marketing and Communications, to reach key audiences such as prospective students; alumni, donors, and friends; faculty, staff, and students; and external partners. The AD will oversee content development and management, the Arts & Sciences website and social media presence, publications, visual identity and branding, and, as relevant, targeted marketing opportunities and media relations.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute an Arts & Sciences communications strategy, including its branding and positioning, informed by the Arts & Sciences Strategic Plan, in close cooperation with the Dean and senior leadership team.
  • Produce and manage content in the appropriate medium/format and disseminate it via the appropriate channels to reach target audiences mentioned above.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with faculty and researchers in order to advise on communications best practices and help promote their expertise, publications, awards, teaching, and other achievements in both external and internal outlets.
  • Advise on communications planning for new initiatives.
  • Manage and track analytics
  • Recommend and implement initiatives and changes to improve and enhance communications protocols.

Required Skills

  • Master's Degree and 12+ years of experience, with a minimum of eight years of leadership experience.
  • Experience as a communications leader with a track record of developing and implementing communications strategy.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • A highly creative thinker.
  • Exceptional public speaking skills.
  • Excellent administrative, analytical, communication, interpersonal, managerial, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, be results-oriented, creative, energetic and resourceful in generating enthusiasm and support for the Colleges communications goals.
