The Department of Language Studies (DLS) at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) invites applications for a full-time tenure stream appointment in Education Studies. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an expected start date of July 1, 2022, or shortly thereafter.
The successful candidate must have earned a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in Education or a related field by the start date of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in both research and teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.
Candidates must provide evidence of excellence in research through publications in top-ranked and field-relevant academic journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, presentations at significant conferences, research grants and awards, and strong endorsements by referees of high standing.
Evidence of excellence in teaching can be demonstrated through innovations in teaching as evidenced in current and proposed course syllabi (see below), teaching accomplishments, strong letters of reference, and the teaching dossier (with required materials outlined below). Candidates must be able to teach in English at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. A demonstrated ability to coordinate and develop a university-level academic program is an asset.
We seek candidates with research expertise in Educational Language Technology Innovation & Development who are experienced in the creation and use of impactful language-learning technologies for face-to-face, hybrid, and online learning environments. Using design thinking expertise, candidates must bring a background in prototyping, experimentation, and critical thinking that includes but is not limited to augmented/virtual reality, data driven learning and/or app development. Preference will be given to individuals with demonstrated experience in language learning technology for indigenous languages or languages currently taught within DLS (Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Latin, Persian, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Spanish and Urdu).
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in educational language technology, design thinking and innovation in the Education Studies program and participate in the experiential learning activities offered by the Department. The successful candidate will also teach graduate courses in the Language and Literacies Program (LLE) at OISE on the St. George campus and will be expected to contribute to the education, training & supervision of undergraduate and graduate students.
