The Opportunity

Reporting to the executive director of HR administration, the Human Resources Generalist is responsible for performing a broad range of system-wide professional level HR duties. The HR Generalist works closely with all members the System Human Resources team, carrying out both administrative and strategic responsibilities in support of the department’s commitment to service and excellence.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: employee records, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, recruitment/employment, unemployment, website management, affirmative action and employment law compliance.

Specific duties include the following:

    Shares responsibility for the development and implementation of personnel policies and proceduresParticipates in developing department goals, objectives and systemsResearches best practices and monitors HR trendsRecommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of the department and services performedMonitors and revises the performance evaluation program as necessary Conducts new-employee orientations and facilitates the onboarding process for new hiresMaintains human resource information system records including Family Medical Leave, Employment Verifications and Fee Waivers/Educational AssistanceProvides full-cycle recruiting for non-exempt positions to include posting, sourcing, consulting, and developing diverse applicant poolsMonitors recruiting metrics and prepares reportsConducts reference checks and other due diligenceConducts background checks including UT Promise mentorsProcesses Unemployment Compensation claimsProvides planning, coordination, and support for employee relations committeesParticipates in staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars

Qualifications
Qualities and Qualifications

Education

Some college is required. A bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field is strongly preferred. Professional certifications are also preferred.

Experience

A minimum of five years of experience in human resources is required. Experience in higher education and/or a large, complex environment is strongly preferred.

Skills

The HR Generalist will possess broad knowledge and a diverse skillset in all areas of HR. Specific skills include:

    Knowledge of HR concepts, applicable federal and state laws, and UT policies and proceduresAdvanced knowledge in Microsoft Office software including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPointExperience with SAP/IRIS or similar HRIS  The ability to quickly and independently learn new technologiesStrong interpersonal and communication skillsThe ability to demonstrate a forward-thinking, resourceful, detail-oriented mindsetThe ability to work successfully in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, and often ambiguous environment
