Your opportunity:

Pro Bono Students Canada (PBSC) is an award-winning program that provides free legal services to non-profit organizations and low-income Canadians with chapters in 22 law schools coast-to-coast. PBSC has 25 years of experience designing high quality legal placements and training law student volunteers to help vulnerable Canadians with their essential legal needs.

Under the supervision and direction of the National Director, the Program Officer (Bilingual) will ensure that the chapters’ Student Coordinators understand, and are following, PBSC’s established guidelines, policies, procedures and timelines, all of which are set out in our comprehensive Program Management Guide. The Incumbent will work with the Student Coordinators to ensure that chapters operate smoothly and will support problem-solving of issues, while keeping the National Director apprised of any concerns as they arise. The Incumbent will also assist with running PBSC’s National Training Conference and other events.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate
  • Resolving issues within the scope of the role and escalating problems as required
  • Coordinating tasks for projects and other strategic initiatives with stakeholders
  • Exchanging information at formal department and/or program committee meetings
  • Identifying and introducing variations to established administration processes
  • Coordinating meeting schedules, agendas, materials, action and follow-up items
  • Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming
  • Providing orientation to others on work procedures and practices

Essential Qualifications:

  • Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years directly related experience.
  • Understanding of access to justice programs designed to provide legal assistance to low income individuals.
  • Understanding of law schools and the legal profession.
  • Experience with volunteer coordination.
  • Demonstrated fluency in French and English and ability to communicate both verbally and written, in both languages.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating programs (preferably in an educational setting).
  • Ability to work with all levelof stakeholders including law students, faculty and community partners.
  • Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, ability to manage and prioritize competing deadlines.
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • Excellent analytical ability.
