Job Description Summary
This position is responsible for supporting the division of Student Life’s strategic communications, marketing, and events that promote the services, programs, and activities that are provided primarily by the Ho’okele Department and Ho’okahua Department. This includes Career Services, Alumni Relations, New Student Recruitment, Admissions, New Student Experience and Orientation, Experiential Learning and Internships, Financial Aid and Scholarships, International Student Services, Residential Life, Seasider Sports and Activities, Office of Honor, and Student Leadership and Service. This position may also advise and provide support for Health Services, and Counseling Services.
Various communication and marketing mediums are expected to be utilized, developed, and populated. These include but are not limited to department websites, social media, video and audio podcasts, digital signage, newsletters, CRM email and drip campaigns, and advertising via print media. Experience in messaging development (from discovery to content creation, review, and editing) is a must. The candidate should be aware of best practices, the products used in industry, and novel approaches to outreach and maintain contacts.
The Communications and Events Coordinator should posses strong project management skills and should have experience managing multiple complex events, projects, or tasks at the same time. The coordinator should ensure each project provides measurable impact on building engagement among key audiences while advancing the unique mission and goals of the departments, division, and university.
The Communication and Events Coordinator oversees the members on the Student Life “Creative Team” and manages their productivity, resources, and project outcomes. The student “Creative Team” may vary in size based on event or project, however, team members will fulfill roles such as Graphic Designer, Web Editor and Developer, Videographer, Photographer, Social Media Specialists, CRM Communication Analysts, and Event Leads.
The Communication and Events Coordinator actively contributes to the professional development and learning experiences of students at BYU-Hawaii. These initiatives include mentoring students in student affairs, public relations, communications, design, event planning and other opportunities relavant to their course work.


MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES


Communications and Marketing (50%)
• Develops and produces content and communication pieces for appropriate media channels for events and advertising Student Life, Ho’okele, and Ho’okahua services.
• Implements and oversees marketing campaigns, websites, print media, and social media efforts for Ho’okele and Ho’okahua
• Provides communication-based recommendations that support strategic initiatives.
• Assists with the production of materials for public relations and reports.
• Identifies, collects, and engages students, alumni, and faculty to highlight BYU-Hawaii related stories.
• Demonstrated computer competency with common marketing communication tools, such as photo and video editing software, email marketing services, and analytics reporting software.
• Manages content
o Writes and edits content to align with the appropriate voice and tone for the event or audience.
o Manages recordings, audio clips, and content that is used for department services such as mentoring, student and alumni spotlights, podcasts, retention and recruitment events, online campus tours, and interviews.
o Oversees the curation and upload of content to appropriate YouTube channels or other online media outlets.
o Responsible for the accessibility and compliance of content on websites and platforms.
• Social Media Management
o Helps to manage department social media accounts including Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
o Social media management includes posting of relevant information, monitoring audiences' interaction, providing activity reports, and identifying opportunities for growth and engagement with our audiences.
o Stays abreast of social media dynamics including trends, platforms, updates, and best practices.

Event or Project Management (35%)
• Manage event communication calendar & plans.
• Identify deadlines and manage workloads, prioritizes tasks, coordinates and communicates activities with Student Life and other university services. Co-manages logistics, organization, and execution of events with the appropriate departmental lead. This includes:
o Securing venues
o Ensures proper vetting and approval for events that may include audience participation.
o Forms event committees as necessary and ensures proper staffing.
o Management of supplies and inventory needed.
o Expense tracking and assisting with budget oversight.
o Assisting with travel and registration needs.
o Manages clientele and event participation.
• Plan auxiliary meetings for events as needed (e.g. pre-event strategy meetings, focus/user group meetings, post event feedback groups).
• Record and assess engagement analytics of events and provides a summary report with key insights.
• Establishes and maintains relationships with employers, universities, and other reorganizations.

Program Support & Instruction (15%)
• Coordinate and implement online and in-person, online and hybrid outreach activities (e.g., lectures, seminars, workshops and conferences) in collaboration with departments and other relevant organizations.
• Contributes to the professional development of students by mentoring students in career development related course work and activities.
• Hires, trains, and supervises the student ‘creative team’ employees.
• Participates in online and in-person staff meetings.
• Advises marketing and outreach efforts for various programs such as OCI, CRDEV courses, etc.


Education & Experience
• B.A./B.S Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, advertising, journalism, public relations, or a related field required.
• 2-4 years of experience in a communication and/or copywriting, marketing, or public relations experience.
• Exceptional grammar, spelling and proofreading, demonstrated writing and editing skills, and strong project management experience.
• Adept knowledge and experience of with social media platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, SoundCloud, Instagram, YouTube.
• Experience creating web content and managing websites and knowledge of HTML, search engine optimization (SEO), and web content accessibility guidelines.
• Knowledge of CRM based drip campaigns, and effective email and relationship management marketing tools.
• Self-starter able to work independently and entrepreneurially.
• Experience creating, developing, and implementing new initiatives.
• Metrics-driven and results oriented with demonstrated analytics skills.
