Position Summary

The Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics and the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University (MSU) invite applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment at the Assistant/Associate Professor level. Research in our department spans the microbial sciences, and we seek candidates utilizing molecular, genetic, computational, biochemical, ecological, or evolutionary approaches to address important questions in microbiology. Broad topics of interest include but are not limited to: microbial pathogenesis and host-microbe interactions (viruses, bacteria, fungi, parasites, or prions), antimicrobial resistance, host immunity and susceptibility to infection, genetic basis of host susceptibility/resistance, animal models of infection and disease, microbial disease ecology, and One Health.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant research community internationally recognized for research in microbial ecology, evolution, and pathogenesis and will be expected to establish a robust research program that will attract extramural funding. The successful candidate will provide research training for postdoctoral fellows and for undergraduate and graduate students, and will participate in course teaching. A competitive startup package and laboratory space in state-of-the-art facilities will be provided.

Minimum degree requirement is a PhD, DVM, DO, or MD (or equivalent). Two or more years of postdoctoral experience in academic, research, government, or industry settings, is preferred. Publication record commensurate with level of experience is required.

The Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics has strong collaborative, interdisciplinary ties to applied, basic, and clinical departments at MSU.
