Position:  Coordinator for Study Abroad Program and Seniors College

 

Job Summary:

Provides leadership and oversight in the development and implementation of Alvernia’s Study Abroad program. Collaborates cross-organizationally to design and deliver high quality results that achieve lasting benefits for global education programs and portfolio.  Develops and promotes a wide variety of Study Abroad opportunities for Alvernia students, working closely with students, faculty members and outside providers to support Alvernia students having Real World Learning experiences abroad. Works in collaboration with the departments and other academic and administrative units to facilitate, expand and enhance campus internationalization, intercultural learning, and global initiatives.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Promote, develop and support a wide variety of Study Abroad options for Alvernia Students.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Study Abroad at Alvernia. 
  • Work with outside providers to develop and steward both faculty-led and independent Study Abroad opportunities.
  • Facilitate the application process for students to participate in study abroad opportunities offered by outside providers, including BCA Study Abroad, Sacred Heart University, Australian Catholic University, and others.
  • Prepare guidelines and a webpage for the study abroad programs to inform students about their options.
  • Work with Alvernia Faculty to promote and develop a robust level of faculty-led programming abroad.
  • Promote and facilitate students’ participation in faculty-led study abroad opportunities. This will include application, pre-departure and re-entry assistance, along with the management of Visa requirements, making travel arrangements, communicating about immunization or other items, and communicating as needed with the Registrar’s office, Student Billing, Student Financial Planning, faculty advisors, Health and Wellness, and other Alvernia departments as necessary to ensure all necessary requirements are met. 
  • Create a formal proposal procedure to improve study abroad programs for Alvernia students and faculty members
  • Coordinate information sharing between the risk management department and study abroad programs to make sure that all the programs meet the Alvernia insurance requirements.
  • Establish and maintain an active on-campus presence for Study Abroad, including developing interest sessions and fairs for students interested in studying abroad, and experience-sharing sessions through which students can share their global experiences with other students, faculty and staff.
  • Support faculty members who plan presentations or gatherings after return from study abroad program to share the student experience with Alvernia Community.
  • Establish office policies and procedures, follow the advocate of the international student services and study abroad to learn the current best practice to inform Alvernia Community.
  • Seniors College Responsibilities: 
  • Review and maintain budget, memberships, dues and course fees
  • Develop classes and programming
  • Secure instructors and speakers
  • Develop all brochures and publications
  • Additional Responsibilities:

  • Establish strategic and long-term goals and assessment for the Study Abroad program and the Seniors College.
  • Participate in major HCCGE and University events as requested by the Executive Director, Assistant Director, Provost or President. 
  • Assist in creating and managing budgets.
  • Serve on the Real-World Experience grant committee to evaluate applications to the RWE Grant Fund.

    Qualifications/Education:

  • Commitment to the mission statement, core values and goals of Alvernia University.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • Excellent writing, public speaking and proven computer skills
  • Ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously, independently and as part of a team, while maintaining positive relationships with faculty, staff, students and community partners.

    Physical Requirements:

  • Attendance is required in order to perform the duties of this job.
  • Occasional attendance nights/weekends are required.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
