Organizational Unit Overview:

The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, in conjunction with Vidant Medical Center, provides a broad range of clinical services in anatomic pathology and clinical pathology for hospital and clinic patients. The Department houses residency, cytopathology, forensic pathology, and surgical pathology fellowship programs. The mission of the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine is to improve the health and well-being of the citizens of eastern North Carolina and beyond by delivering high quality pathology services, by providing exemplary education for medical students, residents, and other health care professionals, and by creating new knowledge through research. As the field of Pathology continues to evolve, the Department will continue to uphold its commitment to provide the best diagnosis and treatment monitoring services to the citizens of eastern North Carolina.

Job Duties :

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine of the Brody School of Medicine at Eastern Carolina University is seeking a surgical pathologist for a fixed term position at the title of Clinical Assistant Professor or higher. The successful candidate will join a well-established academic practice that includes five other surgical pathologists. Approximately 22,000 surgical and 8,000 cytology cases including 1,300 fine needle aspirates are accessioned into the department annually. Training and experience in surgical pathology, including gross supervision, and intraoperative diagnosis/frozen section. The department houses residency, cytopathology, forensic pathology and surgical pathology fellowship programs.

The candidate will be expected to participate in surgical pathology service responsibilities, medical student/resident/fellow education and clinical research.

The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center. Vidant Medical Center is the flagship hospital for the Vidant Health System and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

This is a fixed-term faculty position, at the title of Clinical Assistant Professor or higher.

Minimum Education/Experience :

MD or DO degree from appropriately accredited institution.

NC Medical License required.

AP or AP/CP board certified or eligible.

Training and experience in surgical pathology, including gross supervision, and intraoperative diagnosis/frozen section.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation :

NC Medical License required.

AP or AP/CP board certified or eligible.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education :

Training or experience in head and neck, endocrine, soft tissue pathology, and oncologic pathology is preferred.
