Position Summary:

The faculty will be responsible for educational leadership and student instruction on a full-time basis in Emergency Management and Homeland Security courses.

Education:

-Master’s Degree in Emergency Management, Homeland Security, Public Administration, Public Health, or a related field from an accredited college or university. (Minimum)
-Specialized course work (graduate) in one or more of the following: Homeland Security, Critical Infrastructure Protection, Spatial Analysis and/or Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Crisis Communications, Hazard Mitigation, Disaster Recovery, Economic planning, and/or Disaster Psychology related to emergency management. (Minimum)
-Professional development in higher education through training and experience in developing courses in discipline for distance delivery, and documented familiarity with distance delivery online systems, e.g. Angel, Blackboard, Desire to Learn, etc. (Desired)

Experience:

-Three (3) years’ experience in the emergency management field as a practitioner, such as an emergency management coordinator, planner, specialist, and/or related position. (Minimum)
-Professional experience in one or more of the following: Homeland Security, Critical Infrastructure Protection, Spatial Analysis and/or Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Crisis Communications, Hazard Mitigation, Disaster Recovery, and/or Disaster Psychology related to emergency management. (Minimum)
-Teaching experience at the college level in emergency management discipline. (Desired)
-Experience developing and presenting distance delivered curriculum (in the online environment) at the college level in emergency management discipline. (Desired)

Responsibilities and Duties :

-Teach full load (15 credits/semester) in Emergency Management and related areas. (Essential)
-Advise, schedule, and maintain accurate written records of student performance. (Essential)
-Maintain office hours according to contractual agreement. (Essential)
-Attend department meetings as requested. (Marginal)
-Write, update course syllabi. (Essential)
-Assist with curriculum review, revision, and development. (Essential)
-Participate in outcomes assessment and program review. (Essential)
-Contribute to the betterment of the department through active department committee participation, leadership and contribution in conjunction with colleagues. (Essential)
-Contribute to the betterment of the College through School committee participation and contribution. (Essential)
-Engage in program marketing and student recruitment and outreach to high schools, colleges and universities, other agencies, etc., which includes travel (may be overnight) to these locations. (Essential)
-Work with the Assistant Dean, Arts and Sciences, and Dean of the school to successfully grow enrollments in the program via both traditional and distance delivery of instruction. (Essential)
-Engage in curriculum revision/development assist in identifying local and regional resources to support instruction (Essential)
-Assist the Assistant Dean, Arts and Sciences, and Dean of the school in identifying candidates for and facilitating meetings of the Emergency Management and Homeland Security advisory committee. (Essential)
-Assist the Assistant Dean, Arts and Sciences, and Dean of the school in planning equipment purchases and facility development to support instruction in emergency management. (Essential)

Special Job Features:

-It is anticipated that the Emergency Management and Homeland Security (EHM and EHD) programs will be primarily delivered via the classroom and distance learning online. This teaching assignment will include both classroom and distance instruction.
-Candidates for teaching positions must be fluent in the English language (oral and written) – English Fluency in Higher Education Act. ( Pennsylvania Senate Bill 539/Act No. 76)
-Finalists must present a sample lesson.
-The terms and conditions of employment for this position are subject to all the provisions of the bargaining agreement between Pennsylvania College of Technology and the Penn College Education Association.
-Background check will be required on selected candidate.

As such, are required to use the following elements of the Learning Management System (LMS): Upload all syllabi, timely use of the grade feature, and collection of digital student work and distribution of digital course materials.

Pay Rate / Salary:

Commensurate with credentials submitted as applied to the College’s Faculty Salary System. As a point of reference, the salary range for new full-time faculty hired in various disciplines throughout the College for the 2021/22 academic year is $57,225 – $74,793.

Additional Information:

The wages, hours, and terms and conditions of employment for full-time teaching faculty, counselors and librarians (all regular College funded positions and certain grant/contract funded positions) are determined by the negotiated Agreement between Pennsylvania College of Technology and the Penn College Education Association. Federal law requires all employers to verify the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires and the completion of an Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) by the candidate and the employer. Any offer of employment shall be contingent on the applicant’s timely production of required documentation to verify identity and employment authorization.
