Departmental Overview
UC Berkeley Extension, the continuing education division of the University of California, Berkeley, has been building bridges between UC Berkeley and the public since 1891. UC Berkeley Extension serves the professional and continuing education goals of thousands of people each year. Extension's programs are an essential part of the University mission to: extend the research and scholarship of UC Berkeley to a global community; increase access to higher education for non-traditional, online and international students; and improve the workforce.

Responsibilities
Manages the implementation of programs created with strategic partner institutions, associations and corporations. Manages the continuous improvement of programs, from academic staffing to program logistics, and student support. Uses advanced technical expertise, accredited and / or certification public educational program concepts and organizational objectives to resolve complex public education program issues and needs assessment initiatives. Works on most complex public education program issues, where analysis of situations requires an in-depth evaluation and understanding of organizational strategies and business objectives. Exercises judgment in selecting methods and techniques for delivering courses, presentations and development of programs. Exercises judgment in selecting methods and techniques for course and instructional improvement.
- Recruits, selects, orients, evaluates and supervises qualified accredited and / or certificate instructors. Works with program directors to identify potential instructors; coordinates instructor interviews and materials required for academic approval and instructor hiring and onboarding. Manages the academic implementation of cohort programs, including managing instructors and coordinating with administrative staff.
- Evaluates and adjusts course curriculum through student evaluations and levels of interest shown. Reviews course evaluations, shares and interprets data, and works with staff to implement course scheduling each semester. Collaborates closely with all public program directors and program managers to ensure implementation of quality and administration processes across programs.
- Develops, prepares and reconciles budget for program(s). Manages creation and reporting of budgets across portfolio of programs and courses. Provides recommendations to Director for budget optimization.
- Gathers and analyzes data on the effectiveness of partner program promotion, design and delivery, as well as student earning outcomes and overall satisfaction. Establishes evaluation criteria for measuring desired results and impact.
- Manages ongoing partnership relations for recurring programs. In collaboration with established partners, [plans and develops programs and curriculum] of recurring cohort programs and adjusts existing courses and curriculum in an accredited and / or certified public education environment.
- Manages the execution of partner programs and coordinates with support services to optimize program planning and delivery. Collaborates with Admissions Services, Student Services, Global Outreach, Marketing and Career Services to optimize program planning and execution, and provide student support through advising and optimization of student communication and information sharing.
- Under the guidance of Director, evaluates prospective program partnerships to assess the operational feasibility of the requested cohort programs, as well as the potential for a long-term engagement.
- Uses considerable discretion to determine methods and procedures for current and new course offering and topics. Develops processes to report on course and program performance to create reports to Director for continuous improvement of course structure. Works with program managers, directors and instructors to secure academic approval for courses submitted to COCI (Committee of Courses on Instruction), proactively and independently tracking, troubleshooting, and resolving issues as needed.
- Manages development and implementation of extracurricular activities and events for cohort programs, such as welcome orientation for new students and graduation.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
- Thorough knowledge of concepts, principles, and procedures of building and maintaining effective relations with internal and external, national and international constituencies.
- Advanced intercultural communication skills to effectively manage relations with staff, agents and representatives of institutional or corporate partners.
- Skill in using business software systems in the completion of work assignments (i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
- Ability to gain thorough knowledge of the organization's policies and procedures; advanced knowledge of functional area and understands how work impacts other areas of public educational programs.
- Thorough knowledge of concepts, principles, and procedures of building and maintaining effective relations with internal and external, national and international constituencies.
- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Continuing education in related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of accredited and / or certificate program instruction and delivery methodologies, the organization, market and business strategies.
- Master's degree or higher in related area.
