Position Description:The Arts Management Program in the School of the Arts invites applications for the Instructor of Arts Management (Music Industry) position beginning August 2022. We are seeking a candidate with a specialization in the music industry. Candidates with a background and current connection to the music industry as well as a demonstrated interest in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in our program and in arts and cultural organizations are especially welcome to apply.
Responsibilities include teaching four courses each semester in the undergraduate music industry program. Courses may include introduction to the music industry, history of the recording industry, legal issues in the music business and entertainment industry, arts presenting, festival management, and/or internships. Additionally, the incumbent will coordinate activities related to the music industry concentration including 1770 Records, the student-run record label; IN THE MIX, a speaker series connecting students to music industry leaders; the annual summer music industry study abroad program; and complete other service to the program, school, and College as assigned. The incumbent will advise undergraduate majors and regularly engage with music businesses, artists, and related professional associations locally, regionally, and/or nationally.
Minimum Credentials: A doctorate or master’s degree in music business/industry, arts management or a closely related field is required (if the degree is in a related field, at least 18 hours of arts management-related graduate coursework is required). The successful candidate will have 5+ years teaching experience in the music industry/music business and will demonstrate excellence in teaching at the collegiate, undergraduate level. Candidates with previous undergraduate teaching experience and online teaching are preferred. Candidates without online teaching experience will be asked to complete an online education readiness course at the College of Charleston. The successful candidate will have professional experience in the music business field or closely related industry on a local, regional or national level with close connections to musicians, nonprofit musical and other arts and cultural organizations, music businesses and enterprises, recording studios, professional associations in the music industry, and discipline-specific groups. We are especially seeking candidates with a national presence in the music industry and who have experience working with diverse musical genres, musicians, and enterprises.

Arts Management Program
: The undergraduate Arts Management Program is one of the few programs of its kind in the Southeast and has approximately 200 majors, including a Concentration in the Music Industry. Additionally, the Program is home to the Graduate Certificate in Arts and Cultural Management with connections to the Master of Public Administration and Master of Fine Arts, Creative Writing programs. The Arts Management Program has close ties with local and state level arts and cultural institutions including Spoleto Festival USA, the Charleston Gaillard Center, the South Carolina Arts Alliance, and the South Carolina Arts Commission.
