The Auraria Library has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Employee Engagement Manager position.

The Auraria Library is a team of intensely collaborative, forward-thinking colleagues dedicated to providing excellent services and resources to our students, faculty, staff, and community members in a rapidly evolving information environment.

Located in downtown Denver, Colorado, the Auraria Campus is home to three institutions of higher education – University of Colorado Denver, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and Community College of Denver – both MSU and CCD are Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI), and CU Denver is finalizing its HSI and Asian American Native American Pacific Islander (AANAPISI) designations. The Auraria Library serves the campus’ over 35,000 students, the majority of whom are from the first-generation in their family to enroll in higher education. Position Emphasis:

The Employee Engagement (Human Resources) Manager will work closely with the library’s Director, Associate Directors, and Fiscal Manager to envision and implement an anti-racist and equity-centered employee development program that will support employees from the recruitment process through their entire time with the library. This role will work across the library and in collaboration with the administrative team to create a critical library culture that includes a high-quality and streamlined interview experience; an on-boarding and off-boarding strategy that goes beyond orientation and is comprised of a true immersive experience that will help new hires feel welcome and handle employee departures with diplomacy; collaborate with library staff to establish a continually evolving program for professional development, recognition, and mentorship; ensure that employees feel valued and supported through formal and informal methods. This is a wonderful opportunity for an individual who wants to help create processes and programming from the ground up and assist library leadership to create an inclusive culture that supports employees and enables them to be successful in their work.

The individual hired into this position will be required to provide in-person services, though we offer flexible work arrangements, a professional development stipend for all employees, and the opportunity to advance through a compensation structure that provides opportunities for career advancement consistent with the Library’s current and future staffing needs.

Examples of Work Performed:

Human Resources Business Partner

    HR functions:Maintain employee data in HCM.Act as a liaison for CU Denver HR and attend meetings and events as necessary.Ensure compliance with federal, state, CU Denver and CU policies and procedures related to personnel.Manage the Worker’s Compensation and Family Medical Leave (FMLA) issues and documentation.Create and maintain an employee handbook.
  • Recruitment, hiring, and onboarding:
  • Oversee hiring, onboarding, and off-boarding for all employees
  • Provide recommendations to library leadership for an equity-centered recruitment and interview process.
  • Provide guidance to search committees on required training and interview processes.
  • Develop processes and documentation to ensure consistent and clear workflows.
  • Compensation coordination:
  • In collaboration with the library’s administrative team, Finance Manager, and CU Denver HR oversee the creation and coordination of the library’s compensation program which includes:
  • Development of a compensation philosophy and guiding principles.
  • Establishment of a compensation matrix for all employee classifications in accordance with CU Denver HR policies.
  • Creation of a compensation analysis process and timeline that aligns with the annual budget development process.
  • Coordination of regular salary reviews to ensure employee compensation is equitable and accounts for changes in compression, market data, and peer comparisons.
  • Payroll and leave processing:
  • Coordinate the merit pool distribution process.
  • Manage payroll for all employee types (monthly, biweekly, student workers), including actions related to taking on temporary duties and other needed adjustments during each pay period.
  • Professional and Organizational Development:

      In collaboration with the library’s administrative team, coordinate organizational training needs on a regular basis; develop and maintain a training calendar.Build on existing efforts for a recognition program that allows for both formal and informal opportunities.Respond to library needs for a mentorship program.Develop a comprehensive employee on-boarding and off-boarding process.Offer library-wide workshops on topics including, but not limited to, anti-racism, microaggressions, and unconscious bias. Coordinate external training opportunities with CU Denver HR and other appropriate campus or local groups.
    Employee Relations:

      Conduct stay interviews, climate studies, and other similar studies to develop retention strategies for library employees.Assist library administration in creating a culture of psychological safety, trust, and a problem-solving conflict resolution approach.Gather employment statistics and data to help the administrative team make decisions regarding employee support and engagement as well as identify what types of workforce diversity we are trying to achieve.Assist the library’s administrative team in the coordination of an evaluation process that focuses on regular feedback as well as career advancement. Develop an evaluation calendar per campus guidelines; organize employee materials and ensure they are properly processed by CU Denver HR.
    HR Liaison:

    • Collaborate, as part of the Library’s Business Unit, with the Finance Manager to coordinate fiscal aspects of the following human resources workflows. It is expected that there is a high degree of partnership between these roles to ensure that our HR actions have the appropriate funding:
    • Compensation program support
    • Payroll expense transfers (PETs) and other adjustments as needed
    • Merit adjustments
    • Position funding
    Other:

    • Perform other duties as assigned
    Salary and Benefits:

    The hiring range for this position has been established at $65,000-$80,000.  

    The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

    The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

    Qualifications
    Minimum Qualifications:

      Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, or related fields from an accredited institution. Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis, but not for the specific experience.4-6 years of professional level HR, recruitment, employee relations, payroll, and/or learning & development experience.
    Required: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

    Preferred Qualifications:

      Master's or higher degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, or related fieldsHigher education and/or library experience.Experience developing recruitment, onboarding, and evaluation processes and policies.Experience managing payroll.Administration of benefits and compensation programs.Gathering and analyzing HR metrics.Experience developing and delivering professional development training and support.Supervisory experience.Experience using Concur, Taleo, HCM and/or other similar systems.
    Competencies/Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
