Job Summary

The Department of Biology in the College of Arts and Sciences at Clayton State University is seeking applicants for a Lecturer of Biology position. The position is a 10-month (renewable), non-tenure appointment that reports to the Chair of the Department of Biology. The successful candidate will be expected to begin on August 1, 2022. Salary will be commensurate with experience and competitive with comparable programs. In compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, proof of authorization to work in the U.S. will be required at the time of hire.

Part of the University System of Georgia, Clayton State University is located 15 minutes from downtown Atlanta in a beautiful lakeside setting. The Department of Biology consists of 14 full-time faculty members and approximately 300 biology majors. We offer courses and labs in a variety of fields with an emphasis on high-quality undergraduate teaching and undergraduate research. In addition, we support the core curriculum and health sciences majors through our non-majors courses. Responsibilities

Teach the Human Anatomy and Physiology courses and labs and other non-majors courses, and occasional upper division courses as needed. (Instruction of students accounts for 80% of the job duties for a lecturer position)Participate in service to Department, School, University, and community. (Service accounts for 20% of the job duties for a lecturer position)Serve as a career mentor for Biology students.

Required Qualifications

A doctoral (ABD candidates will be considered) or masters degree in biology or related field Ability to teach Human Anatomy and Physiology courses and the associated labs for allied health studentsExcellent oral, written and interpersonal communication

Preferred Qualifications

Successful college teaching experience or the potential to be successful at college teachingAbility and desire to teach other lower-level non-majors or majors courses and labs as needed. Ability and desire to teach an occasional upper division course in the candidate’s area of expertise. Willingness to participate in innovative, evidence-based teaching practices that support the recommendations of Vision & Change in Undergraduate Biology Education, including but not limited to community engagement, course embedded research, metacognitive approaches, and/or strategies to engage higher order cognitive thinking.Experience with and/or desire to work with diverse student populations and a commitment to diversityA team-player with a commitment to working in a department that prioritizes collaboration Experience with (or willingness to learn) utilizing course management systems in teaching and/or implementing online courses
