GRANT PROPOSAL WRITER

Scope of Job:
Responsible for the development, writing, and editing of assigned grant proposals and reports. Provides and coordinates assistance in identifying and developing funding sources to support existing and planned program activities.

Description of Duties:
• Researches and identifies, government, private, corporate and/or foundation funding prospects.
• Generates proposals and supporting documents following agency guidelines in response to requests for proposals or as part of solicitation strategy.
• Ensures the timely submission of grant proposals.
• Maintains and implements funding calendar activities, including cultivation activities.
• Edits reports for government, foundations and/or other funders.
• Acts as a liaison with program staff in different University departments.
• Identifies funding opportunities and new program areas to match institutional priorities, using research tools.
• Ensures that all proposals are compliant with university policy and collaborates with the Office of Sponsored Programs when appropriate.
• May engage with program officers at different organizations to solicit invitations to submit proposals.
• Assists in the planning and development of special projects associated with grant submissions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

General direction from the assigned supervisor.

Supervision Given:
Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree in English, Communication, or related field from an accredited university.

Licenses/Certifications:
None.

Required Experience:
Three (3) years of related work experience with a proven track record in grant writing and program development.

Preferred Experience:
Experience in higher education setting.

Equipment:
Standard office equipment.

Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; ability to work weekends and/or evenings as needed; regular travel is required within the Lower Rio Grande Valley and occasional out of town travel.

Note: This position will have the option to work remotely. If the work is performed remote high-speed internet and a designated workspace are required.

Other:
Demonstrated ability to work successfully in diverse settings;; demonstrated grant research skills, excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; excellent command of the English language; a willingness to think critically and act independently in those tasks delegated to their care; proficiency in computer applications, to include Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat .

A New University with a Long History

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 in a historic move that brings together the resources and assets of UT Brownsville and UT Pan American and, for the first time, makes it possible for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to benefit from the Permanent University Fund—a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System.

 

Our new university will also be home to a School of Medicine and will transform Texas and the nation by becoming a leader in student success, teaching, research, and health care. UTRGV will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine will open in 2016.

 

UT Brownsville and UT Pan American

The shared history of The University of Texas Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville goes back to 1927, when Edinburg College was founded. In 1973, Pan American opened a second campus in Brownsville, which later became an independent institution of The University of Texas System in 1991. Over the years, the missions and the identities of these great institutions have continually evolved to serve the communities of the Rio Grande Valley.

Now, the evolution and connection between these two institutions is coming full circle as UT Brownsville and UT Pan American are being established as a single, new university and medical school, with a single, new identity—The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
