Assistant Director, Center for Research and Fellowships Administration Georgetown University

Requirements

Assistant Director, Center for Research and Fellowships Administration - Georgetown University

The Assistant Director oversees the program coordination, recruitment, and advising of the Laidlaw Scholars Program - including liaising with the Laidlaw Educational Foundation, designing recruitment, application, and admissions procedures and processes, advising students, and overseeing the successful execution of the program of 25 to 50 scholars. Additionally, the Assistant Director serves as the primary Fulbright Program Advisor, overseeing the successful administration of Georgetown's high-profile Fulbright program.

Primarily a student-facing role, the building formative relationships with our undergraduate students is vital to our work, as is supporting their applications by providing timely and appropriate feedback on their application materials in effort to strengthen the competitiveness of their fellowship candidacies. To effectively advise on scholarship opportunities, the Assistant Director conducts workshops, seminars, and information sessions, develop supporting materials, and organize and oversee mock interviews with students to prepare them for various competitions. Further, the Assistant Director coordinates internal endorsement and selection committee efforts, including collaborating with faculty and academic leaders to identify faculty participants for committee service.

Reporting directly to the Director of the Center for Research and Fellowships; and indirectly supervising 3 to 5 student workers, outside of the Center, the Assistant Director cultivates and manages relationships with a number of Georgetown University stakeholders - from expert faculty, with whom we work closely with on managing selection committees, to senior-level administrators, department heads, and directors of undergraduate studies across the University.

Qualifications
  • 3 to 5 years' experience in fellowship advising and/or student advising in higher education - this may include educational program development and administration or academic advisement of undergraduate students
  • Excellent oral presentation, writing, and research skills
