Stanford University is seeking candidates for the Assistant Athletics Director for Development to lead our annual fund, the Buck/Cardinal Club. Stanford's Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation (“DAPER”) is the premier intercollegiate athletics program in the country. We are the proud Home of Champions! The Assistant Athletics Director for Development is a member of the Office of Development (OOD) which advances Stanford's mission by raising philanthropic support from alumni, parents, families, friends, and institutional funders. Working in concert with volunteers and university leaders, OOD staff members strive to accelerate Stanford's purposeful impact in the world. JOB PURPOSE:

Manage and assess the annual fund programs and activities for Stanford Athletics. Oversee a wide range of fundraising activities.

CORE DUTIES*:
  • Oversee and responsible for annual giving programs. Programs include the Buck/Cardinal Club, sport specific giving, leadership giving, priority seating, direct mail and e-mail solicitations.
  • Design annual gift programs and goals targeted at increasing unrestricted support for Stanford Athletics.
  • Assess short and long-range plans for achieving program and fund goals, setting and monitoring the general budget for the team, and motivating, assisting and evaluating staff.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to promoting and supporting an environment of diversity and inclusion.
  • Manage annual giving officers and support staff, working with the team to maximize individual, program and department goals by providing oversight, guidance, strategic advice, training and mentorship.
  • Manage the Buck/Cardinal Club Board and liaise to its members, managing the Volunteer Prospect racking System (VPTS).
  • Interact with key volunteers, board members, leadership donors, students, Development Office managers, and senior staff.
  • Maximize efforts through partnering with class-based reunion giving program, class agent efforts, a young alumni effort, student education and a graduating class gift program.
  • Responsible for directly managing a portfolio of individual prospects with the potential to make annual and major gifts at leadership levels.
  • Serve as a staff liaison to various strategic initiatives for DAPER.
  • Serve as the DAPER Development liaison to select sports programs.
  • Regularly attend home athletic events to serve as an ambassador of the Buck/Cardinal Club, to maintain sufficient knowledge of sports programs, and to increase visibility with donors, prospects, volunteers, coaches, and student-athletes

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree and eight years of experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience. Four to six years of supervisory experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Significant experience managing a high-performing annual fund.
  • Proven record of accomplishment that demonstrates initiative, creativity, managerial and interpersonal skills. Well-developed leadership abilities and a willingness to take risks and solve problems creatively.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage, organize, motivate, and delegate to others, including volunteers. Proven success in managing, mentoring and retaining a professional fundraising staff. Ability to address performance issues as they arise.
  • Ability to articulate a compelling case for discretionary annual giving in a complex internal and external fundraising environment.
  • Strong experience in analyzing and interpreting data to drive strategies and the ability to conceptualize, develop, implement and assess strategic development activities.
  • The ability to build effective long-term relationships both internally and externally and the ability to articulate and advocate for institutional goals clearly.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the proven ability to collaborate, build team spirit, and achieve results within a diverse population that may possess competing interests, opinions, and/or expectations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.


Certifications and Licenses:
  • Valid California Non-commercial Class Driver's License.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
  • Occasionally stand/walk, light/fine grasping, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds, writing by hand.
  • Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks; frequently sitting; frequently use a telephone.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class license.
