The Faculty of Health Sciences (the ‘Faculty’) at Simon Fraser University (SFU) invites applications from outstanding early-career scholars to be appointed as Tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in Environmental Health Inequities. We seek a scholar with a PhD in a health-related field who approaches the link between human health and the environment through a justice lens. The ideal candidate combines expertise in environmental health with theory from social and environmental justice to study the influence of social, structural, and behavioral factors on the links between environmental and human health. Moreover, the candidate has expertise in domains of social justice, power, access, and advocacy, and is committed to anti-racist and decolonizing praxis.

We seek a colleague with demonstrated and/or clear potential to develop an independent and robust research program in Environmental Justice in the Faculty of Health Sciences. The successful applicant will have a track record demonstrated through a variety of pathways, such as publications, teaching and mentorship, research funding, awards, community engagement, policy development, knowledge translation and interdisciplinary collaborations appropriate to the level of the scholar. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the teaching and mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students, and specifically will be asked to teach introductory environmental health courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels.

The successful candidate will join colleagues in the transdisciplinary Research Challenge Area of Planetary Health within the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The Faculty is located on the unceded traditional territories of the Coast Salish peoples, including the səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations at the SFU Burnaby campus. Created in 2005, The Faculty's mission is to improve the health of individuals and populations and to reduce health inequities through excellence in interdisciplinary research and education, in partnership with local, national and global communities. The successful candidate will join a diverse and dynamic team of more than 50 multi-disciplinary faculty members and will have the opportunity to engage with and teach outstanding students in the PhD, MSc, MPH, and BA/BSc programs. The Faculty maintains collaborative agreements and partnerships with the BC government, regional health authorities, the First Nations Health Authority, research centres, and other health agencies.
