Job Summary

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate with the Physics Department at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The successful candidate will be based at Fermilab and work on the muon g-2 experiment making an improved measurement of the muon magnetic moment anomaly. Comparison of the results with theoretical predictions allows a high precision test of the Standard Model, with outstanding sensitivity to new physics. UMass researchers have responsibilities for precision NMR-based magnetic field measurements, magnetic field analysis, and other aspects of the experiment. Essential Functions

Examples of duties:

  • Conduct precision magnetic field measurement and analysis.
  • Develop new magnetic field measurement hardware and techniques.
  • Take shifts on the experiment.
  • Give presentations and write analysis notes on your work.
  • Help prepare results and papers for publication.

Other Functions

  • Work collaboratively and effectively to promote teamwork, diversity, equality and inclusiveness.
  • Work in partnership with colleagues within the CNS community and across the campus to support the Dean’s strategic priorities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and goals of the College of Natural Sciences.
  • Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

    Ph.D. in experimental AMO, nuclear, particle physics, or related field.

    Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

    Candidates with some hardware experience preferred.

    Additional Details

    Appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal.

    Work Schedule

    Typically Monday-Friday 8:30am- 5:00pm, with occasional shift work. 40 hours a week, 100% FTE.

    Salary Information

    Salary will be commensurate with experience.
