Collection Maintenance Assistant, Georgetown Law Library - Georgetown University Law Center

The Collection Maintenance Assistant helps to ensure the integrity of the collection and its accessibility to the Georgetown Law community. They are responsible for the day-to-day updating of legal materials and serves as the primary liaison to the Law Center's mailroom coordinating the daily receipt, delivery, mailing, and organization of library packages. They ensure that the Law Library's print legal content is current and accessible, assist in maintaining law library retention policies, and oversee the movement of resources as they are superseded, weeded, or discarded.

Under the supervision of the Head of Content Acquisitions and Management, the Collection Maintenance Assistant has duties that include but are not limited to:
  • Ensures that the library's print legal collection is current and accessible
  • Handles updated materials after physical processing is complete
  • Directs to whom and where the items should be sent
  • Ensures that library materials delivered to and dispatched from the Law Center's central mail office are handled in a timely manner
  • Serves as a source of information on general issues related to the updating of print legal materials and their retention policies
  • Occasionally answers questions from student employees about issues related to the shelving and updating of legal materials
  • Interacts with staff throughout the library by serving on library committees and through collaborations on inter-departmental functions


Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED/equivalency
  • 1 to 2 years of library experience
  • Familiarity with spreadsheet, database, and cloud-based document storage applications
  • Strong oral, verbal, and written communication skills


Preferred qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Related work experience in a library collection services
  • Understanding of print continuing resource functions and library services platforms
  • Knowledge of law and/or legal materials
  • Familiarity with the Ex Libris Alma library services platform
