Responsibilities
Responsibilities include: teaching introductory, upper division, and graduate courses in home discipline and contributing to a growing curriculum in digital humanities across COLFA; contributing to the university and community through service and outreach; and maintaining an active research agenda that results in such products as publications, grants, software, curated datasets/databases, and digital archives.

Org Marketing Statement
The College of Liberal and Fine Arts (COLFA) at The University of Texas at San Antonio seeks a faculty member who will contribute to COLFA's interdisciplinary work by teaching and researching in the digital humanities, broadly understood. This assistant professor will be housed in one or more of COLFA's departments (Anthropology, Art and Art History, Communication, English, History, Modern Languages and Literatures, Music, Philosophy and Classics, Political Science and Geography, and Southwest School of the Arts), depending on the most appropriate discipline affiliation. The assistant professor will also have the opportunity to collaborate with departments in other colleges, especially around the computational, mathematical, and statistical foundations of data science.

Research-active faculty in COLFA typically teach a 2/2 course load. We seek a candidate whose research includes one or more of the following: digital archives, mapping, data visualization, data mining, machine learning, digital design or composition, new media, digital pedagogy, science and technology studies, scientific open source projects, software reproducibility, team science, critical analysis of social media, development or critical/theoretical analysis of digital tools, critical code studies, digital markup, and born-digital texts. Ideal candidates will have an interdisciplinary research program that engages with Public Humanities, creating work that either is informed by the public or has a public-facing component.

Required Qualifications
  • A strong record of teaching and research.
  • An active research agenda with evidence of digital skills and public humanities experience.
  • The ability to successfully teach (including building digital skills and experience) and mentor diverse, underserved students, including first-generation students, underrepresented minorities, and non-traditional students, and the ability to contribute to the university's commitment to inclusive excellence as a Hispanic Serving Institution.
  • A terminal degree in their field at time of appointment.
