General Description:

Reporting to the Director of the Single Stop Center, the Financial Literacy Success Coach provides financial education to students and assistance in developing financial goals and student success/financial action plans. This position collaborates with various campus departments to create and deliver financial planning services and supportive resources that positively impact student success. Title III at Community College of Philadelphia is a five-year grant servicing students with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, and ethnic backgrounds. This is a temporary, grant-funded position. Employment is based on the continuation of grant funding.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Educate students about the importance of managing financial resources and planning/developing success strategies for their future; coach students on possible options and alternatives for achieving financial and educational goals.

  • Provide financial education to student clients via workshops and individual sessions; work with students to develop and create financial/success action plans; help students assess and take action regarding credit and debt management issues and concerns.

  • Oversee and conduct one-on-one sessions on financial planning.

  • Develop activities to promote Financial Literacy across the College.

  • Collaborate with appropriate offices (Financial Aid, Student Life, etc.) to create and deliver financial literacy services and resources that impact student success, manage debt levels, and asset attainment.

  • Consult with instructors of first-year experience courses (AH 101, BUSL 101, FYE 101) to promote financial literacy/planning tools and resources in their courses.

  • Visit classes and conduct presentations for departments to provide information on financial literacy/planning services, tools, and resources available for students.

  • Collaborate on marketing efforts/materials to alert students to a financial fitness program.

  • Collect data and develop reports as required.

  • Help assess the effectiveness of the initiative and related activities.
  • Work collaboratively with staff devoted to other elements of the Title III grant, including evaluating effectiveness within the overall context of the grant.

  • Cultivate a culture of diversity, equity, respect, and inclusion in all working relationships.
  • Deliver quality customer service to both internal and external constituents in a professional, helpful, and courteous manner.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution required. Any and all degrees must be from a recognized institutional accreditor.

  • Minimum one (1) year experience working at a higher education institution required.

  • Previous experience in developing and delivering financial literacy tools and workshops required.

  • Demonstrated understanding of financial literacy and assessment of student basic needs.

  • Ability to conduct public presentations in a small or large group setting required.

  • Skills and knowledge to effectively work with students with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, and ethnic backgrounds are required.

  • Ability to travel to provide services at regional campus locations required.

  • Commitment to the culture of diversity, equity, respect, and inclusion; demonstrated ability to build working relationships with people having a wide variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences different from one’s own is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum one (1) year of experience working at a community college is preferred.

  • Experience with a propensity to learn, use, and implementation of financial literacy software preferred.
