SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary is commensurate with training and experience. This is a 3-year limited duration position. JOB DESCRIPTION

Extension Evaluation and Staff Development at the UT Institute of Agriculture (Institute) invites applications for the IT Specialist Limited Duration position. This is a 3-year, exempt, non-tenure track staff position. This position's primary purpose is to work with the Lead Developer and the UT Extension organization to create web-based applications to meet the ever-evolving needs with regards to planning, evaluation and reporting.  Additionally, web-based applications will serve to meet the needs of the clients UT Extension serves. This position helps to provide vision for specialized applications and solutions aligning with the Extension’s strategic plan. This includes focusing the development of solutions in a .NET environment based on requirements established by guiding committees.

This position works directly with Lead Developer to develop solutions to meet the needs of Extension and the clients they serve across the State of Tennessee.



Qualifications
RESPONSIBILITIES

    Provide excellent written and oral communication. Work independently and within a team environment. Desire to learn new skills as needed. Problem solve, test and apply technical solutions to informational needs without supervision. Document the application solution and testing process\\procedures so that documentation\\instructions can be understood by both technical and non-technical personnel. Facilitate, lead, and deliver training sessions to diverse audiences in various formats (in-person and web-based). Obtain the skills and abilities to create and curate a training material library in various formats such as User Guides and Instructional Videos.Work with system users to troubleshoot\\resolve issues in a calm, respectful, and inquisitive manner.Consults with diverse clientele to assess needs, conceptualize solutions and determines development pathway for complex IT processes that meet both technical and programmatic requirements.Conducts self-directed research, evaluation, and examination of multiple technologies to devise new approaches to meet client needs and standardize services.Provides leadership in solving issues related to medium- to large-scale IT services provisioned for Extension personnel and customers.Ability to create application testing protocols throughout the development cycle to ensure products are meeting requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

    Vocational or Technical Training in IT, MIS, Computer Engineering, or similar field (transcript required) or equivalent coursework/experience. One year of application design and development with a modern programming language such as ASP.NET Core 3 or higher, C#. Experience with integration of .NET projects and applications with MS SQL Server.Experience in training others and writing detailed, instructional and reference materials with screen shots, examples, or exercises.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Ability to problem solve, test and apply technical solutions to informational needs without supervision.Ability to document the application solution and testing process / procedures so that documentation / instructions can be understood by both technical and non-technical personnel. Ability to facilitate, lead, and deliver training sessions to diverse audiences in various formats (in-person and web-based). Desire to obtain the skills and abilities to create and curate a training material library in various formats such as User Guides and Instructional Videos.Sound skills in decision-making, critical thinking, planning, and crisis management. Ability and skills necessary to work with system users to troubleshoot / resolve issues in a calm, respectful, and inquisitive manner. Working knowledge of ASP.NET Core 3, C#Working knowledge of the SQL programming language.Working knowledge of Javascript/ jQuery / Javascript frameworks. Working knowledge of front-end frameworks like Bootstrap.Working knowledge of basic database administration and the skills to apply consistently quality and security standards. Intermediate project management skills, leadership skills, and abilities. Ability and desire to work independently and within a team environment. Ability to learn new skills as needed. Intermediate skills in the use of Microsoft Office products.
Preferred:

    Bachelor's degree in IT, MIS, Computer Engineering, or similar field (transcript required)Two years of application design and development with a modern programming language such as .NET Core 3 or higher, C#.Prefer knowledge of UT Extension and its departmentsAbility to create short, concise instructional videos in a way that is understood by a diverse audience.
