Minimum Qualifications::

For this position, candidates must have at least one of the following:

1. Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from an accredited college or university AND two years of professional experience in automotive technology; OR
2. Associate’s degree in any discipline from an accredited college or university AND six years of professional experience in automotive technology; OR
3. A combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent of items 1 or 2 above ; OR
4. Valid California Community College instructor credential appropriate to the subject per Education Code 87355 (issued prior to July 1, 1990).

Experience Required::

• Meet minimum qualifications for an automotive community college instructor (bachelors degree and two years professional experience or associates degree and six years professional experience, or approved equivalent).• Two (2) years recent successful experience teaching automotive technology or related subjects at the community college level.• One or more Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certificates.• Demonstrated knowledge and ability in a.) teaching automotive electrical/electronics, engine performance, brakes/suspension, HVAC, diesel, alternative fuel vehicle systems, engine rebuilding/machining, or other related systems, b.) autonomous vehicles and/or related technologies, or c.) other advanced transportation systems.

Desired Qualifications::

• Master’s degree• ASE Master Automotive Technician certification.• California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) smog certification.• Advanced education/training in automotive or other transportation technologies via manufacturer, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), or accredited higher education provider. • Demonstrated knowledge of autonomous vehicles, alternative fuel, and/or other alternative advanced transportation technologies.• Organizational and computer expertise, including the ability to use technology in the classroom.• Recent industry certification and experience including alternative fuels, tires, and other automobile functions.• Demonstrated ability and willingness to work with manufacturers, service providers and suppliers to develop industry sponsored programs and workforce opportunities.• Demonstrated ability and willingness to develop collaboration and partnerships with industry and other education institutions to advance the profession.• Experience in program and curriculum development in new advanced technologies and industries.• Demonstrated knowledge of the training needs of automotive service employers and employees.• Outstanding oral and written communication skills.• Recent community college teaching experience.• Knowledge of the needs of adult and under-prepared students.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities::

This assignment includes (but is not limited to) the following:
Instruct lab and lecture classes in accordance with the established course outline of record. This includes organizing instruction towards achieving those objectives; participate in the selection of textbooks and other materials; conferring with students; assigning grades; and providing a safe and positive classroom and laboratory environment. Work collaboratively with other department instructors. Maintain professional and ethical standards. Remain current in all subject matter areas and in the techniques of effective instruction. Work effectively with unique constituent groups. Participate in the development, assessment and analysis process of curriculum; including programs, courses, and Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs). Participate in department and committee work, curriculum and program development, community outreach, and other duties necessary for the benefit of the students, college, community, and the profession.
