The Department of Neurology is looking for a full time Academic Services Professional (Clinical Research Finance Specialist) at the entry-level or intermediate level. The Clinical Research Finance Specialist will help in managing the department database – NeuroCraft and the day-to-day management of the system as it relates to clinical research financial management.  This position is responsible for the organization of all clinical trial internal and external patient billing, sponsor billing, and study subject reimbursements for assigned subspecialties and projects. Supervision Received:

General supervision will be primarily by the Finance Program Manager. Secondary supervision will be provided by the Clinical Research Services Program Director, Department Chair, and Director of Finance and Administration, but it is expected that the incumbent will work with a reasonable degree of independence.

Examples of Work Performed

Duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

Clinical Trial Account Reconciliation:

    Reconcile and allocate study payments to appropriate study accounts. Balance all study financial accounts to align with the CU Data reporting structureReview general ledger reports for misappropriate expenses billed to account and adjust as neededEnter all study expenses into the department clinical research databaseReconcile and enter study expenses into the department clinical research database as appropriateMaintain accurate financial reports for study accounts on a monthly basisAble to assist with industry sponsored budget negotiations.
Patient Billing:

    Organization of all patient related billing, both internal and external, and the processing of study subject reimbursementsProcess patient billing through CU Marketplace after extensive review to ensure billing statements have correct patient and pricing data.  Create system to safeguard against billing errors that are not consistent with approved internal study budget.  Manage system to resolve all billing errorsBe responsible for processing study subject reimbursements confirming visit data is complete and accurate.  Manage follow-up system to ensure all study subjects are paid timely for participation.  Resolve all issues related to study subject payments on a timely basisCreate calendar of invoicing due dates and manage system to ensure invoicing is accurate and reflects all funding due from subject enrollment
Additional Duties:

    Collaborate with the Office of Grants and Contracts on study funding source maintenanceBecome a subject matter expert in the department database, NeurocraftRun, analyze, and distribute adhoc reportsIdentify any discrepancies related to financial management of clinical research and make necessary adjustmentsCreate and update process maps as applicableManage a university p-card and reconcile any purchases using upholding the university fiscal stewardshipPerform other duties as assigned


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

For Entry Level Appointments:

  • A bachelor’s degree in public health, public administration, social/behavioral sciences, physical sciences, healthcare, or a directly related field from an accredited institution
For Intermediate Level Appointments:

  • A bachelor’s degree in public health, public administration, social/behavioral sciences, physical sciences, healthcare, or a directly related field from an accredited institution
  • One (1) year of professional experience working in a finance, budget or clinical research related position.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills especially in Microsoft Office
Substitution for both levels: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis, but not for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications but, not required:

    Three (3) years working in a clinical research environmentExperience working as part of a multidisciplinary teamExperience working with human subject research regulationsExperience with reading and understanding clinical trial protocols

    Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.Outstanding customer service skills.Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.Thorough understanding of UCD fiscal policy and the regulations set forth by sponsoring agencies and will have the authority to change and/or develop departmental policies to ensure the department(s) is within compliance.  Independent judgment as well as self-directed work capabilities. Ability to communicate across departmental and central administration lines.  Professional business conduct and an ability to maintain effective lines of communication are required.  Ability to prioritize and handle multiple competing deadlines is a must.Thorough understanding of how clinical trials are conducted at the University of Colorado as well as reading and understanding clinical trial protocols.  Attention to detail.
Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) has been established at:

Entry Level: $43,830 - $47,596

Intermediate Professional: $47,597 - $50,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
