The Department of Medicine, University of Colorado, School of Medicine is seeking an outstanding leader and manager to serve as the Executive Vice Chairperson (EVC) to the Chair of Medicine.

 

The Department of Medicine (DOM) at the University of Colorado is world-renowned for excellence in all academic domains. As the largest department within the School of Medicine, the Department of Medicine has 16 dynamic Divisions with more than 1,100 faculty, 890 research and administrative staff, 188 residents and 139 fellows. Located at the Anschutz Medical Campus, our clinical, research and academic programs attract the best physicians, scientists and students from around the world who are transforming the future of health care through excellence in patient care, education and research. The Department’s clinical programs have experienced unprecedented growth and our subspeciality programs are recognized nationally in caring for our complex patient populations. Nature of Work

With the Department of Medicine Chair, the EVC will help craft and execute the strategic, clinical, operational and academic priorities and acts as a key liaison with internal and external partners. The EVC provides executive oversight of the core Department of Medicine missions, overseeing the development, implementation and sustainment of core Department of Medicine positions, priorities, and programs.

 

The ideal candidate will hold the degree of MD, be board-certified in an internal medicine specialty, and possess leadership and managerial experience in a comparable academic or healthcare setting according to the details below.

Operational Oversight

    Serve as trusted partner and confidant to DOM ChairServe as acting Chair of Medicine in the absence of the ChairManage the DOM Vice Chairs and provide oversight of their programsParticipate in annual Division reviews and set key success metrics for the divisions
  • Integrate and balance the DOM’s missions across the department
  • Assist the Chair and DFA in setting funding priorities and the best use of limited resources
  • Ensure DOM vision and goals are met by Vice Chairs and Division Heads
 

Expected FTE

    The expected FTE for this position is 50% funded by the Department of Medicine. The ideal candidate will be expected to be clinically active in their respective specialty or have additional activities in research within which they will spend the balance of their time.
 

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring range for this position at the associate professor level has been established at $237,000 - $243,000. The hiring range for this position at the professor level as been established at $262,000 – 285,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

    Qualifications
    Minimum Qualifications

      Candidates must have a minimum of 7 years experience in a comparable Department of Medicine, Associate Professor or aboveProven experience in clinical care, operations, faculty and personnel management and research; preferably 5 years in each areaAt least 5 years of leadership experience at a divisional, hospital or department level.
