Nature of Work:

The Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus School of Medicine invites applications for a Pediatric Neurosurgery Post-Doctoral Fellow to conduct laboratory-based translational research on pediatric brain tumors, with a focus in Adamantinomatous Craniopharyngioma. The position will involve project planning, data interpretation, and team presentations with the Principal Investigator and other researchers in the lab. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, preparation of tissues and cell cultures, animal care related to research procedures, microscopic analysis, DNA/RNA isolation, and work with adenoviruses, retrovirsues, and lentiviruses. The position will be expected to oversee collection, collation, testing, and analysis of data, conduct of viral transductions, and development and maintainence of research databases anf tissue resources. The Post-Doctoral Fellow will also train other laboratory personnel in experimentation techniques and will function in a highly independent manner.

This is a 12-month Essential Position which requires the selected candidate to be present even during times of campus closure due to weather and other events and/or during occasional night and weekend shifts. Please note that as a condition of employment, the selected candidate must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check. The selected candidate will require access to The University of Colorado and Children’s Hospital Colorado system in order to collect tumors during surgical resections and verify clinical diagnosis of tumor specimens. Tumor collections will not require any patient contact as the tumor specimen will be handed to the Post-Doctoral Fellow by OR staff.

 

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) has been established at $53,760-$65,292

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

    A qualified candidate must have a PhD or MD in Immunology, cancer biology or an applicable discipline.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

    Highly self-directed and have demonstrated expertise in cell culture, transcript level assays (e.g., RT-qPCR, etc.), protein level assays (e.g., western blot, etc.), as well as high-throughput assays (e.g., flow cytometry, etc.). Experience with murine research models is desirable. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have experience with statistical analysis methods related to the aforementioned assays, maintainence of accurate experimental documentation, and dissemination of research findings to the broader scientific community via manuscripts and/or oral presentations. Additionally, previous experience related to one or more of the following research areas will be viewed favorably: oncology, immunology, neurology, and/or dermatology. 
Competencies:

    A successful candidate will be highly organized; has the ability to effectively communicate both written and orally; and can collaborate with a highly interdisciplinary small team environment that includes clinicians and basic neuro-oncologists. The ability to generate hypotheses, design experiments, and troubleshoot errors is imperative.
