Organizational Unit Overview:
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Brody School of Medicine of East Carolina University is seeking 2 (two) full-time Maternal-Fetal Medicine faculty members for our growing division; tenure track or fixed term appointments are available.
The responsibilities of the Division encompass the traditional academic triad: excellence in patient care, medical student education and resident training, and pursuit of basic or clinical research. The division serves as the tertiary referral center for 29 counties, provides inpatient and outpatient consultations, performs prenatal diagnosis including involvement in a very active fetal echocardiography program, ultrasound guided fetal therapy, and supervises the high-risk clinic with fetal assessment; there is an active maternal cardio-obstetrics program as well as an evolving rural telehealth program.
The successful candidates will join a very collegial, enthusiastic group of 3 full-time MFMs. Currently division members take evening/week-end phone call; deliveries would be at the interest and discretion of the candidate. Job highlights include:
- A division currently composed of 3 full-time MFMs, 12 trained perinatal sonographers, 1 genetic counselor and experienced perinatal nurses
- A referral center serving a population of 1.4 million (29 counties) with extensive need for maternal and fetal care
- A Level III NICU
- Supportive and experienced pediatric subspecialists, including pediatric surgery
- An opportunity to develop or expand one’s clinical/research niche
- Beautiful eastern North Carolina with proximity to an extensive array of cultural and outdoor activities
Candidates must possess an M.D. or D.O. degree, be eligible for licensure in the State of North Carolina by the time of employment, and qualify for medical staff privileges at Vidant Medical Center, the academic medical center of ECU. Candidates must also be board certified with the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and must be eligible for, or have, certification of special competence in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Academic rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience
