Summary of Duties:

The Campus Director of Talent Search programs manages the daily operations of two TRiO Talent Search grants and provides supervision of full-time Talent Search staff at Washington State University Vancouver, Hudson’s Bay and Fort Vancouver high schools.

The Campus Director of Talent Search programs reports to the Executive Director of Student Equity and Success. In collaboration with the Executive Director, this position will work directly with target school administration and community partners to implement and sustain a STEM and career-centric college readiness curriculum/co-curriculum to ensure program objectives are achieved for the 1000 TRiO-eligible participants served by the programs. The Campus Director and Executive director will jointly accomplish this by establishing and monitoring a data collection system that tracks participant academic progress, program engagement, and participant needs, and is accountable for the allocation of resources and program results. Joint responsibilities include managing operations and services, fiscal planning, budget management, and complying with Talent Search grant policies and procedures as outlined by the U.S. Department of Education.

The Campus Director will also coordinate and provide direct leadership in the support of all program participants during their 12th grade year by collaborating with local colleges/university orientation programs to ensure the highest percentage of participants successfully transition into post-secondary education by the fall immediately after high school graduation. This position will directly supervise four College Access Coaches and one program coordinator, and will provide oversight to hire and place six part-time academic tutors within the target high schools.

The TRiO Talent Search (TS) programs identify and assist individuals from Hudson’s Bay and Fort Vancouver high schools, Discovery and McLoughlin middle schools who have the potential to succeed in higher education, with particular emphasis on low-income and underserved students. The programs provide academic, career, and financial counseling to participants and educates participants regarding the availability of financial aid; assisting participants with the postsecondary application process. Talent Search also encourages persons who have not completed education programs at the secondary or postsecondary level to enter or reenter and complete postsecondary education. The goal of Talent Search is to increase the number of youth from low-income and underserved demographics to successfully complete high school and enroll in and complete their postsecondary education.


Required Qualifications:

  • Positions require a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a field related to the functional managerial area which has included at least one (1) year of supervisory experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. A Masters degree in a relevant field may be substituted for up to one year of the required experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in secondary or higher education, counseling, social work, student affairs, public policy or related human services field.

  • Experience in design, management or implementation of TS or similar projects such as college access or pre-college access programs.

  • Three years of professional experience in staff supervision budget management program development and evaluation, reporting, and compliance with federal regulations.

  • Professional experience managing federal TRIO programs, academic support programs or similar programs for low-income and/or potential first-generation college students.

  • Demonstrated success meeting reporting requirements and following regulations for U.S. Department of Education grants.

  • Strong commitment, training, and experience working with potential first-generation and low-income students, disabled, and other disadvantaged populations.

  • Multilingual.

Associate Vice Provost for Inclusive Excellence Recently Announced

Dr. Lisa Guerrero was recently named associate vice provost for inclusive excellence. Guerrero has been an active advocate for diversity and inclusion since joining the WSU faculty in 2004. She is currently a professor of Comparative Ethnic Studies in WSU’s School of Languages, Cultures, and Race. She will maintain her faculty position, while serving as associate vice provost in a half-time appointment.

Dr. Guerrero will provide leadership to academic affairs in implementing WSU’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. She will help to identify and implement best practices and evidence-based approaches in faculty hiring, tenure and promotion, research support, faculty retention, teaching and mentoring, and curriculum planning. One of her first areas of responsibility will be to oversee the Racism and Social Inequality in the Americas faculty cluster hire program for Fall 2021.
