Description of Work:

The Engagement Zone Coordinator (EZC) role is an administrative appointment within the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR). This is a five-year renewable term subject to satisfactory annual reviews and a satisfactory formal reappointment review. The EZC reports to the dean of the Cooperative Extension Division and engages with other members of IANR’s senior leadership team and other UNL academic leaders.

The Campus-based EZC is a key leader for UNL, IANR and Nebraska Extension, a highly engaged and respected organization committed to making a difference for Nebraskans. The Campus-Based EZC is expected to develop and expand the connection of outstate EZCs to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus in innovative ways that are mutually beneficial and create valued impact.

This EZC will serve as a broker between campus and statewide Extension, IANR and UNL resources, and promote networking and collaboration. This individual will partner with other EZCs to seek out new and strengthen existing relationships, identify common goals, and foster joint projects and programming that contribute to UNL’s engagement in the long-term growth of the state.

This EZC will be a key collaborative and strategic partner with UNL and IANR academic unit leaders; Nebraska Extension program leaders; outstate EZCs; and Research, Extension and Education Center (REEC) directors to leverage talent and assets from across IANR, UNL and beyond. This EZC will contribute to carrying out the strategic plan for IANR’s extensive statewide network of research, extension and learning platforms.

This position will have the following duties and responsibilities:

UNL Engagement (80%)

• Expected outcome: Collaborative relationships with local leaders that produce university-community initiatives that generate mutual benefit to all parties.
• Establish productive working relationships with campus colleges, departments, centers, and faculty defined by clear outcomes, shared responsibilities, and necessary resources.
• Identify key emerging issues and continuously examine those issues for relevance and priority.
• Connect university faculty, staff, and students with outstate Engagement Zone Coordinators, encouraging them to collaborate on solutions to critical issues leading to significant positive impact.
• Contribute to UNL’s N|2025 goal of broadening Nebraska’s engagement in community, industry, and global partnerships.

Stakeholder/Partner Connections (20%)Expected outcome: Stakeholders value their relationship with Nebraska Extension, contribute to Extension’s excellence, partner with resources, and champion Extension’s people and programs.

• Coordinate strong public relations and program marketing initiatives that represent Extension and IANR relative to issues, needs, and opportunities.
• Connect Extension work to contemporary research results.

Cross-functional expectations:

• Articulate the vision and direction of Nebraska Extension.
• Build strong and functional working relationships with the Lead Educators in your Zone and with your Engagement Zone Coordinator cohort.
• Through a strong relationship with the Greater Nebraska Business Center, establish best business and human resource practices.
• Serve as an engaged and collegial member of the Extension Leadership Team.
• Build opportunistic connections with Research, Extension and Education Centers, departments, University Centers and other key UNL people and resources.
• Seek professional development to enhance administrative skills, stay current with innovations in leadership and management skills and Extension pedagogy.

This position will be located on campus and help to build continued support for campus engagement.

The Campus-based Engagement Zone Coordinator is expected to assume other duties and responsibilities as needed in support of statewide Extension and Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources programs.

Travel is required. Must meet driver standards according to UNL policy and have a valid driver’s license. Criminal history background check will be conducted.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in education, communication, administration, management or related field.
• Experience working with individuals, peers, and teams to accomplish goals.
• Success in building and developing partnerships and collaborations.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in a higher education environment including building relationships with campus leaders and faculty.
• Success in resource development (external funding, donations and/or public private partnerships).
• Ability to engage diverse partners and audiences.
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
