The Department of Art & Art History is one of five units housed in the College of Arts +Architecture, which includes Dance, Music, Theatre, and the School of Architecture. TheDepartment is accredited by NASAD and consists of thirty full-time faculty and 400 students.The Department offers a BFA in Graphic Design and a BFA in Art with seven studioconcentration areas: Art Education; 3D Interdisciplinary Studies: Art in Space; Digital Media;Illustration; Painting; Photography; and Print Media. Description of Work:

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte recognizes the differentiation of mission, goals, and objectives inherent in the diversity of disciplines represented by its colleges and departments. Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Non-Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate teaching goals.

Teaching – Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, and grading student work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Department of Art & Art History in the College of Arts +Architecture seeks applicants for a full-time Lecturer to teach eight courses per year (4/4 load). Renewable contract. Primary teaching responsibility will be to develop and teach large Liberal Studies (Arts & Society) lecture courses for non-majors. Secondary teaching responsibilities may include smaller Liberal Studies lecture courses in the candidate’s area of specialization. Qualified candidates in either art history, or studio art disciplines, including art education will be considered. Potential for summer teaching for additional compensation. Starts August 2022. Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications.

Minimum Experience/Education:

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience:

Terminal degree appropriate to the candidate’s teaching discipline is preferred. Acceptable minimum qualifications to be considered include an MFA in studio art; or ABD, MPhil., or PhD Degree in art history. Documented college-level teaching experience relating to the teaching responsibilities identified above. 2-3 yrs. teaching experience preferred. Evidence of a commitment to developing critical thinking skills applicable to the study of contemporary, globally relevant, and diverse art topics. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion, and to share the work of retaining diverse, first-generation college students within the context of a public urban research university. While Lecturers are not evaluated on professional practice, a record of research accomplishment is highly valued.
