Description of Work:

Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Non-Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate teaching goals.

Teaching – Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching (including lab, studio, or production management) may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, and grading student work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The School of Architecture (SoA) at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications
for a two-year Research Fellowship in Emerging Technology and Design in architecture. As new
material and digital technologies transform the building industry, from the techniques used to design and execute buildings to the technologies and systems deployed within them, the SoA seeks to expand its established research trajectory in innovative technology applications in the built
environment.

The Research Fellow will have the opportunity to develop a research agenda and collaborate with
colleagues in SoA’s state-of-the-art research, fabrication, and computation labs as well as colleagues in engineering, computer science, and allied fields. The successful candidate will contribute to advanced building technology in both design research and teaching, the outcomes of which include publications, workshops, exhibitions, and public presentations. The Research Fellow will have the opportunity to advance research projects within the Integrated Design Research Lab and contribute to activities such as grant proposal writing, prototyping, simulation, experimentation, data collection and processing, and peer-reviewed publications. The Fellow will be expected to teach a reduced course load (one course per semester) in building technology and/or design studio instruction.

Minimum Experience/Education:

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience:

An advanced graduate degree in Architecture, Building Science, Design Computation or related field is required; a PhD or DDes is preferred.

Evidence of published design work, research projects, grant awards, and/or scholarship is required.

Preference will be given to candidates who integrate computational methods and techniques in their research and teaching.
