Job Description Summary

These student workers are responsible for coordinating, scheduling, officiating and supervision of intramural sports and activities. Major responsibilities will include general supervision, officiating, scheduling, record keeping, and promoting the Intramural Program. At the Wellness Center they are responsible for monitoring fitness, gymnasium and equipment room facilities, ensuring member safety, and enforcing campus recreation policies. These staff members will promote a fun environment of competitive fair play.

Perform lifeguard duties as directed by supervisor. Ensure the safety of students, staff, faculty, and visitors to the pool and/or lakefront facilities and performing water rescues if necessary.

Job Description

DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • Knowledge of and ability to enforce rules for Softball, Football, Basketball and Soccer Leagues
  • Provide quality officiating during contests as fairly as possible
  • Ensure participation takes place in a safe manner
  • Develop intramural schedules for various leagues and tournaments
  • Knowledge of various sport rules and abide by those rules at all times
  • Verify player eligibility
  • Serve as scorekeeper, game official, etc. as needed
  • Promote exciting activities to foster the continuous growth of the Intramural program
  • Perform general setup, breakdown, custodial and maintenance functions, as necessary
  • Updated intramural website with game results daily
  • Ensure facilities are free of safety hazards prior and during game play
  • Maintain positive public relations with students and staff
  • Additional work opportunities may be offered working Open Recreation Events
  • Attend any mandatory staff meetings and staff training
  • Ensure a safe workout environment through constant circulation of the gymnasium and fitness floor
  • Be available to set up any user on any piece of equipment or weight machine and properly provide spots to users
  • Be able to set up volleyball and pickle ball nets in the gymnasium for special events
  • Keep the fitness floor clean and make sure all weights are in their proper place
  • Clean equipment
  • Enforce all building policies and procedures, such as no bags on the floor and proper dress code for all users
  • Equipment room check out
  • Execute emergency procedures when necessary
  • Report any incident of injury, theft, or broken equipment to the Supervisor on duty
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and trainings
  • Check in all patrons who use the facility
  • Lifeguards are employed to ensure the safety and supervision of the pool and lakefront areas while in use.
  • Other related duties such as basic maintenance and related tasks are to be performed when not actively serving as a lifeguard.
  • Lifeguards will supervise both the Wellness Center Pool and the University’s lakefront area in a scheduled rotation and perform in-water rescues as necessary.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Federal Work-Study is preferred, but Non-Federal Work-Study is encouraged to apply.

Knowledge:

  • Proof of current certification OF CPRFPR, AED Essentials, Standard First Aid, and Lifeguard certification.
  • Or willing to be certified in CPR, AED Essentials, and Standard First Aid, prior to working
  • Applicants must be full time undergraduate students eligible for student employment
