Position Description Summary:

Northern Illinois University (NIU) School of Music seeks a full-time Assistant Professor to conduct the NIU Philharmonic, Opera Theatre and teach courses as appropriate. This is a tenure-track position beginning August 16, 2022.

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in music with professional experience, outstanding conducting and classroom teaching skills and a record of creative collaboration with diverse colleagues and students. Applicants should be able to demonstrate and document a commitment to student success, particularly for first-generation and traditionally under-represented groups.

Preferred Qualifications:

Terminal degree or equivalent professional achievement, experience conducting and teaching experience in music theory, orchestration or other relevant curriculum at the collegiate level and evidence of successfully recruiting music majors.

Hiring Rate/Range:

Commensurate with qualifications, experience, and education; position includes a robust benefits package.

Northern Illinois University is a comprehensive research university offering programs from the baccalaureate through the doctorate.
