The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people. Position Summary:

The Rajao/Perez Lab in the Department of Population Health at the University of Georgia is recruiting two highly motivated postdoctoral scholars to work in viral immunology. Our lab’s research interests focus on the interspecies transmission, pathogenesis and control of influenza viruses. Our laboratory uses a wide range of in vitro and in vivo approaches to study influenza virus host range and improve existing or new vaccines and antivirals. We have developed several vaccine platforms against influenza viruses or SARS-CoV-2, including vaccines to enhance the mucosal immune response. The postdocs will work directly with immunology experiments to evaluate the response of the vaccines developed by the lab. The candidates will also be involved with other projects in the lab. The postdoctoral fellows will work with an international collaborative group of students, postdocs and researchers and interact with many other virologists at the University of Georgia or the Centers for Excellence in Influenza Research and Surveillance (CEIRS), of which Dr. Perez is a part

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position:

PhD in molecular virology or immunology. Training and proven track record in mucosal immunology.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies :

This position involves knowledge of basic and molecular biological and virology procedures and techniques. Knowledge and experience with mucosal immunology, in particular working with IgA immune response. Good organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and with others and to supervise and mentor other lab members. Good written and oral communication skills. Experience and willingness to work in animal experiments using various animal models of influenza.
