About the College/Unit/Department:

UGA Cooperative Extension was founded in 1914 to bring research-based agricultural information to the people of Georgia. County agents and specialists throughout the state share information on issues like water quality, profitability in agribusiness, family wellness and life skills.

County agents provide soil and water test kits and instruction, advice on safe pesticide use, publications, computer programs and lessons in consumer skills to improve Georgians’ quality of life. They are the local experts in food safety, proper eating habits, child safety and parenting.

UGA Extension coordinates 4-H, Georgia’s largest youth program. Each year, almost 200,000 young Georgians participate in community projects, summer camps and conferences on today’s issues while having fun and learning to work together. The leadership skills and values they learn in 4-H last a lifetime.

UGA Extension reaches more than 2.6 million Georgians through education programs each year. Millions more rely on UGA Extension’s publications, educational news articles and public television programming for advice and information.

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Business, Communications, Organizational Development, Public Relations, Leadership, Education or related field is highly preferred. Applicable experience will be considered.

Position Summary:

This position reports directly to the Associate Dean for Extension and is the liaison with the Associate Dean’s direct reports, the Dean’s Office, and external constituencies including other administrators, faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders. The role has full responsibility for management of the office and coordinating the Associate Dean’s activities to support the strategic initiatives of UGA Cooperative Extension. The position is responsible for directing the daily operations of the Office of the Associate Dean for Extension, which includes the Associate Dean, the Assistant Dean, and the Director of County Operations. It also supervises student employees in the office.

Serves as primary liaison for the Associate Dean’s direct reports, other UGA senior administrators, faculty, and staff for day-to-day office operations and for key projects and initiatives. Duties include frequent contact and interactions with industry and stakeholder groups both in Georgia and beyond. Exercises significant judgment in managing the Associate’s Dean’s meeting agenda and complex travel schedule, and is responsible for prioritizing inquiries and information for the Office. Oversees and evaluates information technology needs for the Office to include scheduling and maintaining video conferencing systems. Supports team environment of the Associate Dean’s Office. Responsible for setting office conferences, and facilitating inter-office communication. Supervises student workers and interns in the office.

Coordinates Extension employee recruitment and internship program – including developing strategies for innovative ways to advertise position vacancies to attract a robust and diverse applicant pool, administering Extension’s presence at career fairs and providing leadership to institutional recruitment teams of agents for employee recruitment (including career fairs at major southeastern peer and 1890 institutions), and coordinating the hiring and training/supervision, recognition and tracking/follow up of interns in offices across the state. Some travel required.

Provides oversight and support for the Public Service Promotion System in the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences to include management of the on-line submission and voting system, administrative support to the Associate State 4-H Leader, coordination with the Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach and extreme confidentiality.

Prepares briefings and supporting documents for all meetings and events, including briefing documents for internal and external speaking engagements. Coordinates requests for speaking engagements and meetings. Manages the Associate Dean’s correspondence. Primary responsibility for initiating, writing, and editing drafts of regular and ad hoc communications.

Organizes, coordinates, and provides support to ad hoc committees charged by the Associate Dean related to UGA Cooperative Extension. Responsible for ensuring appropriate support for ad hoc committees and serves as a liaison to the committee and the Associate Dean. Manages, coordinates, and directs the Associate Dean’s Office staff in planning and executing special projects and events. Executes special assignments and projects at the direction of the Associate Dean.
