University Housing’s mission is to provide comfortable, affordable and secure on-campus housing options in residential communities where the academic success and personal growth of residents are encouraged and supported. University Housing operates as a self-supporting auxiliary unit within the Division of Student Affairs. More than 8,000 students live on campus, where University Housing manages more than 2.8 million square feet of space in 22 residence halls, 20 apartment buildings, four Greek Park houses and 18 buildings on UGA’s nearby Health Sciences Campus. The department employs more than 700 staff members to conduct the operations of a comprehensive and integrated student housing organization.

· Master’s degree in a related field· 3-5 years of full-time work experience in housing and residence life or related field.· Experience in supervising, training and evaluation of graduate or professional staff· Experience serving in an on-call capacity, assisting with crisis management and supporting students in distress· Experience providing budgetary oversight and management· Experience in program planning and development for residential students· Experience working with student conduct management systems (Advocate, Maxient, etc) and with adjudicating casesExperience working with housing management systems (StarRez, RMS, Adirondak, etc)

Position Summary:

The primary function of the Assistant Director for Residential Programs and Services is to manage the comprehensive operations of one of three unique residential areas on a campus with a total occupancy of 8500 students. The Assistant Director will work collaboratively with departmental, divisional and university colleagues to develop, implement and provide on-going assessment to strategic goals and initiatives impacting their residential area.

· Collaborative individual working with faculty and staff from a variety of university departments.· Ability to multitask and find creative solutions in a supervisory and autonomous environment· Strong organizational and problem solving skills· Computer skills including Microsoft Office programs and Learning Management Systems such as Blackboard· Strong oral and written communication skills needed to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, parents, and administrators

Physical Demands:

Normal office environment including sitting at a desk with computer use for 1 – 2 hours, and lift/carry up to 40 pounds.
Operate a vehicle.
Walk through multi-unit housing facility, climb stairs, and visually inspect for compliance to maintenance and safety standards.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Supervision
• Select, train, supervise and evaluate four (4) to eight (8) full-time residence hall directors and administrative support staff.
• Work with staff to coordinate the selection, training and evaluation of graduate and undergraduate student staff, including resident assistants, C.L.A.S.S. advocates and student assistants.
• Work with staff to develop unit and area goals that contribute to the achievement of departmental, divisional and university priorities.

• Work collaboratively with other members of the RPS leadership team to assist in the creation, implementation and on-going assessment of departmental academic initiatives and the residential curriculum.
• Participate in on-going meetings with campus partners engaged with varied student populations in their residential area.
• Support departmental, divisional and university strategic goals and initiatives through service on committees, task forces and other collaborative professional development opportunities.

Crisis Management and Follow-Up
• Participate in a weekly on-call rotation providing direction and support to live-on staff as they manage and providing crisis response as necessary.
• Respond to emergencies and other unexpected events which disrupt the operation and management of the community. Identify and respond to situations having the potential to escalate.
• Provide follow up to concerns through personal contact with students, parents, faculty, administrators and other stakeholders to resolve problems, answer questions and clarify policy.
