Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Horticulture or related field and knowledge of ornamental crops and the green industry.

Position Summary:

The Department of Horticulture at the University of Georgia is seeking applicants for an Assistant Professor of Horticulture with responsibilities in the area of ornamentals in nursery and greenhouse production. The position is a nine-month, tenure-track position with an expected 85% Extension and 15% Teaching appointment (with a guarantee of two months summer salary). The Georgia green industry is diverse with small, medium, and large commercial operations distributed across the state with $9.7 billion in total economic impacts and accounting for a total of nearly 104,000 full- and part-time jobs. The incoming faculty member will be expected to establish an Extension and applied research program that addresses high-priority priority issues in Georgia. The successful candidate will also be expected to develop resource materials (i.e., outreach publications, newsletters, handbooks, videos, websites, mobile phone apps, and other interactive tools), provide training (i.e., workshops, seminars) and technical assistance to Agriculture and Natural Resources County Extension Agents, procure extramural funding, and publish research findings. The successful candidate will also be expected to interact effectively with growers, industry leaders, government agencies, and grower organizations, and collaborate with other scientists, developing regional cooperative projects when feasible. The successful candidate will be expected to serve as the faculty liaison to the Georgia Green Industry Association and the Center for Applied Nursery Research. Teaching responsibilities will consist of offering the HORT 4630/6630 Nursery Management course on an annual basis and regular involvement in other scholarly and departmental activities, including participation in support of graduate education. The position is located at the University of Georgia Griffin Campus and includes greenhouse, nursery, and field production space.
